Monday, November 25, finds the Brooklyn Nets and Cleveland Cavaliers tipping off for the first time this season.
The squads played four times last season with the Nets winning the series by virtue of taking three out of the four contests. The Cavaliers hold the all-time record having bested the Nets in 102 of their 180 matches.
Brooklyn Nets
Kyrie Irving is hampered by a right shoulder impingement which has kept him off the floor for five consecutive games and he’ll likely miss the next two versus his former teams (Cavs and Celtics). In his absence, the Nets are 4-1.

It wasn’t pretty and they almost coughed up the ‘W” but the Nets hung tough to capture the victory versus their cross-town rivals the Knicks on Sunday by two points (103-101). The Nets held a 10 point leading heading into the final frame and clung to the lead until the horn sounded.
Spencer Dinwiddie was on fire yet again leading the team with 30 points, four rebounds, four assists and connected on 13 of his 14 free throw attempts.
Jarrett Allen registered a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds. Taurean Prince also delivered a double-double of 14 points, 11 rebounds plus five assists.
Joe Harris (13) and Garrett Temple (12) pitched in as the other double-figure contributors.
Wilson Chandler the first of the trio of suspended stars (Suns Deandre Ayton and Hawks John Collins) is eligible to return to the lineup on December 15.
Caris LeVert surgery to repair ligament damage in his right thumb will keep him out until late next month as he heals. And, superstar Kevin Durant will be the entirety of the season rehabbing his ruptured Achilles tendon.
Cleveland Cavaliers
Having lost three games in a row and five of their past six games the Portland Trail Blazers rolled into Cleveland with Damian Lillard back in the lineup thinking the Cavaliers would be an easy mark to stop the bleeding. This feeling increased given the Cavs best player Kevin Love wouldn’t be suiting up.

Instead, the Cavaliers systematically took the Blazers down. Jordan Clarkson led the way with 28 points while Tristan Thompson came one rebound shy of a double-double with 25 points and nine rebounds.
Collin Sexton scored 19 points to earn another double-digit scoring effort, something he’s done every game of the season with an average of 17.8 points per game. Larry Nance Jr. chipped in with a double-double of 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Love who sat out the Blazers match due to a lower back contusion is questionable for the match versus the Nets.
John Henson is hampered by a strained hamstring and expected to be out until early December. Likewise, Dylan Windler is out until the start of next month as he nurses a left tibial stress reaction in his shin.
