Tuesday, March 8th the Brooklyn Nets play the Charlotte Hornets for the second of three scheduled meetings this season. Charlotte won the initial match 111-95 on October 24th with both Kevin Durant and James Harden playing. Brooklyn hosts the final meeting on March 27th.
Brooklyn last played Sunday losing 126-120 to the Celtics while the Hornets played Saturday defeating the Spurs 123-117.
Last season, the squads played three times with Brooklyn taking two of the three contests. The Nets hold the all-time record having bested the Hornets in 61 of their 116 matches.

Kevin Durant returned to the court after missing 21 games looking like he’d never missed a beat and reminding everyone of why he’s considered one of the top five players (if not the best) in the NBA.
He put up 31 points, four rebounds, four assists, and a block against the Heat in 35 minutes and 37 points, six rebounds, eight assists, a steal, and two blocks versus the Celtics in Boston with Kyrie Irving playing. BUT — they lost both games!
They’ve lost 17 of 20 and sit in ninth in a virtual tie with both the Hornets and Hawks (who have two extra games in hand).
Brooklyn has the fourth easiest strength of schedule remaining with seven of their 17 games on the road but Irving can only participate in six (Knicks) unless New York changes their protocols.
At some point, Ben Simmons will make his debut with many believing that will happen Sunday (the game after they play in Philly) which would give them 15 games to integrate him and only four with Irving.
For as much as everyone thinks the new trio will be fire – at some point you have to ask – do they have enough time?
LaMarcus Aldridge (hip) is out Tuesday. Simmons (conditioning) remains out and Joe Harris (ankle) is done for the season.
Charlotte Hornets
Since their six-game losing streak, the Hornets are playing middling ball going 4-5 but three of those losses occurred in overtime.
Although Tankathon ranks their closing strength of schedule 18th there are some critical games in that mix including seven versus teams seeded sixth or higher two versus the Nets and play-in challengers the Hawks and Pelicans.
Seven games are on the road with five of those in the final eight dates of the calendar.
In the victory versus the Spurs, seven Hornets scored in double-digits with Terry Rozier leading the way (31 points). LaMelo Ball offered 24 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists.
PJ Washington/Montrezl Harrell scored 15, Kelly Oubre Jr./Cody Martin scored 12, and Miles Bridges chipped in 10.
Jalen McDaniels (ankle) is doubtful and Nick Richards (foot) is questionable to play Sunday versus the Pistons. Gordon Hayward (ankle) is out indefinitely.

This game just got a lot more dramatic given the teams enter with identical records and Charlotte ahead based on that prior win and if they take this match they’ll own the tiebreaker too. That makes this about as close to a must-win for the Nets as they’ve had lately.
Neither team is particularly adept defensively but the Nets have to be careful because if they get lured into a track meet playing run and gun basketball it favors the Hornets who have more overall weapons.
That said, there is only one KD and he’ll have the Nets prepped for this one.
The line opened at 2.5 but has already dropped to 1.5.
