Many people are excited for Brooklyn Nets basketball. The team lost their best player from last season in D’Angelo Russell but they acquired Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. The signing of Kyrie Irving will give them an established star who can win games for them. He will not be able to do it alone.
The Nets aren’t counting on Kevin Durant, who tore his achilles in the playoffs to return this season. The important part is that they got him. Brooklyn will be an exciting team to watch with Irving and young guys like Caris LeVert, Spencer Dinwiddie, Jarrett Allen, and Joe Harris.
Will Brooklyn be a contender or will they do just enough to be relevant? Find out below.
Brooklyn Nets Strengths:
The Brooklyn Nets clear strength comes in the backcourt, particularly at point guard.

Kyrie Irving, who will step in as the Nets best player while Durant is out, will have a similar role to Russell’s. He will dominate the ball and get shots up. He will be asked to also make plays for others.
Last season, Irving averaged 23.8 points, 6.9 assists, and 5 rebounds. It was arguably his most well-rounded season. He also shot an impressive 49 percent from the field, 40 percent from deep, and 87 percent from the charity stripe.
Irving will come in with a chip on his shoulder after only averaging 21.3 points on just 39 percent shooting in the playoffs. His Celtics were eliminated in five games against the Bucks in the second round (semifinals).
It’s not just Irving at point, the Nets got the best backup point guard in Spencer Dinwiddie. Dinwiddie averaged 16.8 points and 4.6 assists last season.
The Nets have combo guard Caris LeVert who many feel can make a jump to become a star player. LeVert averaged 21 points and 4.6 rebounds in the playoffs. He can do a bit of everything. He can shoot, pass it, and go to the basket.

One can’t forget Joe Harris who led the league in three-point shooting (47%). Harris is not only a terrific shooter but a solid defender with a high IQ.
Brooklyn Nets Weaknesses:
The clear weakness for the Nets is front-court production until Durant returns. Brooklyn has arguably as poor of a front-court of any team that will likely make the playoffs. Jarrett Allen and Rodions Kurucs are expected to start at the big spots.
Allen is a solid young big who can defend the paint. Allen averaged 10.9 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks last season. Kurucs averaged 8.5 points and 3.9 rebounds. Kurucs is a stretch four who doesn’t rebound much or play physical.
To back up Allen the Nets acquired DeAndre Jordan. Jordan averaged 9.6 points and 10.9 rebounds last season. He is known as one of the better rebounders in the league and can defend at a high level.
Brooklyn will go with small ball lineups without question. Those lineups will have small forwards Wilson Chandler and Taurean Prince play some power forward alongside Jordan or Allen at center.

If the Nets want to become a contender this season they will have to trade for someone like a Paul Millsap or a Thaddeus Young type. They must fill the void they have at power forward immediately.
Brooklyn Nets Betting Prediction: 49-33
The Over/Under for this team was set at 45.5 games. Last season the Nets won 42 games with a less established roster. Irving is a good replacement for Russell while players like LeVert, Allen, and Dinwiddie are only growing. Assuming the main core can stay healthy they should win around 48-50 games.
They will struggles some nights due to a soft inside but they will get away with it most nights in the regular season. This team looks destined to lose in the first round or the semifinals without KD but they should get it done in the season.
