The events of the past week and so much time idle proved to be daunting for the Toronto Raptors. The defending champs didn’t come close to resembling the team they’ve been in Orlando or this season as they lost badly in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals.
Alternatively, the Boston Celtics who took Game 1 and also had to deal with the same issues and time off displayed no rust and were about as hot from the perimeter as any team has been through the playoffs.
The Celtics took three out of four games in the regular season over the Raptors while this is the first time these squads have met in the postseason.
Boston Celtics
The confidence of the Celtics is sure to be about as high as it’s ever been after dispensing of the Raptors in a game they led from start to finish.
Red hot shooting was the key as the Celtics couldn’t miss especially from the perimeter and in particular on corner 3-pointers. Boston shot 17 of 39 from deep for an efficiency of 43.6 percent.
Six Celtics scored in double-figures including the entire starting lineup.
Both Kemba Walker (18 points, 10 assists) and Daniel Theis (13 points, 15 rebounds) collected double-doubles. Jayson Tatum (21), Marcus Smart (21), Jaylen Brown (17), and Robert Williams III (10) were the other double-figure contributors.
Kemba Walker tweaked his knee but is expected to play while the Celtics who missed Game 1 are out again in Game 2 including Gordon Hayward (grade 3 ankle sprain), Javonte Green (knee), and Tremont Waters (knee). .
Toronto Raptors
The Raptors were probably due for a loss but the way they lost was a wakeup call. Pascal Siakam in particular vacilated between either looking far too hesitant or forcing his offense.
Part of this was the three quick fouls he was assessed in the first quarter and his clear frustration feeling he wasn’t getting the same benefit on the offensive end.
Kyle Lowry was a surprise in that he typically has poor outings after extended days off but he was the best Raptor on the court with 17 points, eight assists and six rebounds.
Like Boston, the Raptors had six double-figure scorers but they shot abysmally from deep. Serge Ibaka (15), Siakam (13) OG Anunoby (12), Fred VanVleet (11) and Norm Powell (10) were the double-figure scorers.
As for injuries Oshae Brissett and Patrick McCaw are both out indefinitely with knee injuries.

Free Boston Celtics vs. Toronto Raptors NBA Prediction:
The defending champs can’t afford to go down 0-2 so should be expected to be sharper in Game 2. It wasn’t just their offense that looked rusty but their defense wasn’t close to their typical prowess. Granted the height of the Celtics wings creates some issues but then the Raptors need to exploit their front court size.
4* Free NBA Betting Pick: Raptors -1.5
Family arrived in the bubble on Monday and based on social media it will undoubtedly lift the spirits of the player who’ve felt isolated and stressed out especially in this last week.
The Raptors needed a boost and that should translate to the hardwood on Tuesday although this series is still likely to go the distance.
