The Eastern Conference Finals could wrap up on Monday as the Boston Celtics seek the sweep versus the Indiana Pacers. Despite a valiant effort by the Pacers it was the Celtics who won clutch time and Saturday’s match 114-111 to take the 3-0 series lead.

Tyrese Haliburton was out in Game 3 and expected to miss Game 4 which is par for the course for Boston this season. Every single series they’ve played has been missing their best player for all or a portion of the series.
Despite his absence, the Pacers came to play with Andrew Nembhard having the game of his life.
Unfortunately, the Pacers don’t get the same whistle as Boston and although Rick Carlisle avoided discussing the officials directly in the post-game his anger was palpable as he repeatedly said ‘We’ll be punching even harder and believe me when I tell you we are coming after them’.

During the season, Indiana possessed the second-ranked offense (120.5) however, their defense lacked something to be desired as it ranked 24th (117.6) while their net differential of plus +2.9 registered 10th overall.
To this point in the postseason the Pacers rank first offensively (120.7), and 13th defensively (119.3) with a plus +1.5 net differential ranking sixth.
The Pacers began the season strong and remained one of the better bets against the spread with a 53-43-3 record through 99 matches.

If the Pacers feel even remotely similar to their head coach a sweep is hardly a given. They clearly feel they’ve gotten the short end of the stick and to be fair the disparity in how the game is being called on the two sides of the court is clear.
Part of that is based on reputation as Boston was among the best defenses this season, but it’s also fair for the Pacers to expect parity with the whistle.
Typically, teams who score more in the paint get the free throw edge but the Celtics have taken almost double the free throws (76-40) while the Pacers won two of the three matches scoring in the paint and were just two less in the third. Cumulatively Indy has outscored Boston
Arguably, Carlisle has a case since his team had just two fewer PIP in Game 1 and won the point scoring in Saturday 68 to 40 but took 12 fewer free throws (14-26).
Indy coughed up the win in Game 1, got pasted in Game 2, and lost another close one in Game 3 but it’s hard to imagine them doing what 154 teams before them haven’t which is to win the next four games after falling into an 0-3 hole, especially without Haliburton.
Sure, this team is gritty and yes the Bean Town crew have a habit of dialing in their effort when they feel overly comfortable but at this point, it sure feels like fans will get a week off as the Celts and Mavs prepare for the finals (not my favorite teams to watch but hey, they’ve earned it).
I’ll take the points, but bring the brooms as the Celtics likely get the sweep.
