Monday, October 24th, the Boston Celtics and Chicago Bulls will compete in the first of four meetings this season. Chicago will host again on November 21st while Boston will host games on November 4th and January 9th.
In history, the Celtics own the advantage of winning 129 of the clubs’ 236 meetings versus the Bulls. Last season the teams played three times with the Celtics winning two of the three contests.
Notably, the one victory against the Celtics was the only match the Bulls won out of the 15 matches played against the East’s top four seeds.
Boston Celtics
One week into the season three teams are 3-0 (including the Celtics) and four are unbeaten. That the Jazz and Blazers sit atop the Western Conference is definitely a surprise, but the Celtics and Bucks (2-0) are precisely where analysts projected them to be.

Despite dealing with adversity given the season suspension of head coach Ime Udoka and tough injury news about Danilo Gallinari (torn ACL) and Robert Williams (another knee surgery) the Celtics have come out firing and looking every bit like the team that pushed the Warriors in the NBA Finals.
That two of their victories came against the 76ers and Heat who were also projected to be in the mix to win the East perhaps speaks to just how polished and committed this Bean Town crew is.
Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown are combining to average just under 60 points, 13.6 rebounds, and six assists through three games. The defense hasn’t measured up to their typical standards, no doubt impacted by the absence of Williams.
If there is a concern it’s the glass where the Celts rank 29th. Again, part of this issue will be cleaned up when Williams returns but in the interim Joe Mazzulla can’t afford to let his club keep ignoring the boards since it feeds second-chance scoring and fast break opportunities for opponents.
Al Horford (back) is questionable for Monday. Robert Williams (knee) is rehabbing from knee surgery that will keep him out until February while Danilo Gallinari (ACL) is lost for the season.
Chicago Bulls
Again, it’s still very early in the season but there are warning signs for the Bulls. Prior to the All-Star Game in 2022, Chicago possessed the fourth-ranked offense.
Injuries and a tougher closing schedule witnessed a massive drop off as they plummeted to 25th in the post All-Star time frame and averaged 13th for the full season.
Defensively, they suffered dramatically particularly when Lonzo Ball went down but also because Alex Caruso and Patrick Williams missed significant time.
Head coach, Billy Donovan clearly put an emphasis on improving defensively and through week one the irony is Chicago ranks higher defensively (16th) than offensively (28th).
Part of the answer for those rankings is tied to injuries and the teams they’ve played which included two of the better defensive clubs (Heat, Cavaliers).
Still, it’s hard to fathom this team having the same success as last season especially while Ball remains out.
Lonzo Ball (knee) underwent another procedure to clean up the debris in his knee left from two prior surgeries and is expected to be out until at least late December.

- The Celtics are 8-3 ATS in the last 11 meetings in Chicago.
Boston Celtics vs. Chicago Bulls NBA Analysis:
None of the Celtics’ wins were blowouts, but they’ve yet to look pressured or stressed despite being thin upfront without Williams. The offense in particular is clicking on all cylinders with Boston posting the top-ranked offense through week 1.
And with that, although the Bulls will be motivated the Celtics simply have too much firepower and depth.
