Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown who each experienced regression last season look much more like the players everyone expected to emerge after a strong showing in the 2017 playoffs. Funny how one player can change an entire team’s chemistry and dynamics.
The one loss for the Celtics occurred on opening night when they played the 76ers on the road. Since then they’ve played two road games but those were against lower-tier squads (Knicks, Cavaliers).
In their last outing, the Celtics defeated the Cavaliers jumping on them early to build an eight-point edge and never relinquished the lead to game end winning 119-113.
Gordon Hayward had his best game since returning from his horrific injury. He registered 39 points and got them the old fashioned way given he only hit one 3-pointer and had a meager four free throws. In addition, Hayward pitched in with eight assists and seven rebounds.
Kemba Walker (25), Jayson Tatum (18) and Carsen Edwards (13) were the other double-digit contributors.
Jaylen Brown (illness) has missed three games while Enes Kanter (knee contusion) has missed five and both are listed as questionable.
Charlotte Hornets
If you asked me prior to season start how the Hornets would fare I fully expected them to vie with the Wizards, Knicks and Cavaliers for the bottom of the ladder.

That prediction may still come to pass, but in the early going this ill-fitting roster comprised mostly of quality reserve players has overachieved. Granted the four wins have come against the lower tier Bulls, injury-riddled Warriors, and two mid-tier teams struggling to get back on track (Kings, Pacers).
In the latter case, both are getting their mojo back and their struggles may be a factor of fatigue given they traveled to India in the preseason.
Regardless, the Hornets pushed the Pacers to overtime and won the game in a spirited battle. The top performers featured five double-digit scorers including Devonte’ Graham who led the team with 35. The others were Terry Rozier (22), Miles Bridges (18), P.J. Washington Jr. (16) and Bismack Biyombo (15).
Washington (lower leg contusion) exited the last game but is expected to suit up. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (migraines) missed the last four games and remains questionable for this match. Nic Batum (fractured finger) will be out at least until month end.

It’s not like the Hornets feature a go-to scorer electing to spread around their shots which makes them more difficult to defend if everyone is scoring.
