Tuesday, April 5th the Atlanta Hawks and Toronto Raptors meet for the final time this season. Toronto is up 2-1 in the season series.
The Hawks are on a five-game winning streak having delivered an important 122-115 victory versus the Nets on Saturday while the Raptors lost 109-114 to the Heat in Kyle Lowry’s first game back in Toronto since the trade.
Last season, the teams played three times with the Hawks sweeping the regular-season series. The Raptors have won 49 of the 98 matches played versus the Hawks all-time.
Atlanta Hawks
Despite Kevin Durant dropping 55 points (a career-best) on the Hawks, they were able to grab a critical victory that vaulted them ahead of the Nets into the eighth seed.
The trio of the Hornets, Nets, and Hawks are all vying for positioning in the play-in tournament and those seeds won’t likely be determined until the final game of the season.
Clearly nabbing the eighth seed is far more appealing since a loss in the first play-in game still leaves a window open since the loser of that game hosts the winner of the ninth-tenth seeds play-in.
And of course, avoiding those bottom two seeds is preferable since it’s a single-elimination game where the loser goes fishing.
In the victory versus the Nets, Trae Young led the way with a double-double of 36 points and 10 assists plus six rebounds and got to the free-throw line 14 times.
Danilo Gallinari outscored the Nets reserves all on his own with 15 points (Brooklyn’s reserves scored a cumulative 12 points).
Jalen Johnson (concussion) is probable, Gallinari (knee), and Bogdan Bogdanovic (knee) are questionable for Tuesday. John Collins (plantar fasciitis) is out indefinitely.
Toronto Raptors
The Raptors’ five-game win streak ended Sunday and while the game was extremely competitive the absence of OG Anunoby was clearly felt.
While he improves the offense because of his ability to hit from beyond the arc which helps spread the court it was his defense that was missed most.
Still, it was a game that came down to clutch time and it could just as easily have gone the Raptors’ way with a few more lucky bounces.
Fred VanVleet offered 29 points, two rebounds, seven assists, and three steals while Pascal Siakam also notched 29 points plus eight rebounds, five assists, and two steals.
Scottie Barnes and Gary Trent Jr. each scored 19 points as the other double-figure contributors.
OG Anunoby (thigh) and Yuta Watanabe (quad) are questionable while Isaac Bonga (toe) is out Tuesday.

Free Atlanta Hawks vs. Toronto Raptors NBA Prediction:
When the teams met in January the Hawks were rolling having won seven in a row and the Raptors ended their streak and replicated the feat two games later following Atlanta’s win versus the Suns.
The match Atlanta won just after the All-Star break marked one of two terrible losses by a Raptors squad who still seemed to be on vacation.
This time both clubs have the motivation to win with the Hawks wanting to retain their eighth seed (or climb to seventh) while Toronto sits sixth with a shot of moving up to fifth (and possibly fourth).
Both teams are playing their best ball of the season so it should be a highly competitive match but Toronto will need to be more cognizant of the perimeter after allowing the Heat too many open perimeter shots on Sunday.
