Sunday, November 10, finds the Atlanta Hawks playing the Portland Trail Blazers for the first time in the 2019-20 season. The game features two of the league’s most consistent long bombers in Trae Young and Damian Lillard.
Last season, the Blazers won both meetings and have won the last three in a row. In a rarity, the teams have each won 57 matches versus each other all-time.
Atlanta Hawks
It’s interesting how different teams respond to controversy. Following the first game of the season, Phoenix Suns big man Deandre Ayton was suspended 25 games for using diuretics which are used to help purge PEDs from the bloodstream.

The Suns rallied around each other and have produced one of the better records in the West. In the Hawks case, with news big man John Collins was also being suspended 25 games for PED use the team hasn’t responded well losing their next two games.
In the recent loss to Sacramento, the Hawks cut a 21 point deficit before succumbing. Trae Young continues to put up solid numbers delivering a double-double of 30 points and 12 assists.
Only two other Hawks scored in double-digits including Jabari Parker with 25 and Kevin Huerter with 17. With Collins out of the lineup, Parker is the player who’ll see an uptick in his playing time.
Evan Turner missed the last five games suffering from Achilles’ pain and won’t return for this match. Vince Carter is also out Sunday due to personal reasons.
Chandler Parsons is out indefinitely with knee issues. Alen Crabbe is recovering from right knee arthroscopic surgery and is expected back at month-end.
Portland Trail Blazers
This will be the Blazers’ third game in four nights as they played a back-to-back set versus the Clippers and Nets prior. Portland is struggling to maintain leads and are winless (0-3) at home.

Despite the loss to Brooklyn, Damian Lillard was magnificent scoring a season and career-high 60 points including seven 3-pointers. Hassan Whiteside posted a double-double of 10 points and 15 rebounds.
Beyond Lillard and Whiteside, the bright spot for the Blazers is the sudden ascendance of Anfernee Simons who is showing why Portland was keen to take a chance on such a young player. Simons (15 points) was the only other Blazers player to score in double-digits versus the Nets.
Portland lost Rodney Hood (back spasms) and Skal Labissiere (sprained ankle) in the Nets game and both are questionable for this match. They join Zach Collins (shoulder surgery) who is out till March, Pau Gasol (foot) out indefinitely and Jusuf Nurkic (left tibia and fibula fracture) who is expected out until February.
