Atlanta comes into Saturday night’s contest at the Moda Center looking to build a rare win streak. The Hawks put together a 20 point win over the Trail Blazers on Wednesday but are just 1-6 ATS their last 7 following a win. The Hawks do keep it close on the road (7-3 ATS their last 10) but Portland is a very tough spot to get an outright victory.
Portland has been playing well, winning 7 of their last 10 to climb into 4th in the Western Conference. The Trail Blazers are huge favorites vs. the Hawks, but they did beat them by 21 when the teams met up a year ago. The Hawks have gone 10-4 ATS the last 14 in Portland however.
Atlanta comes into Saturday’s game still a bit banged up with Kent Bazemore sidelined for a couple more weeks with an ankle injury. There is some good news however as Kevin Huerter has been upgraded to probable for Saturday night’s outing. Huerter had missed the last two games with a neck injury.
Atlanta looked great last time out – or Chicago just looked that horrible. The Hawks were victorious 121-101 at the United Center on Wednesday powered by 35 from John Collins. The forward hit all four of his three pointers and had his fourth game of 25+ points over the last 7.
Four other Hawks players had at least 14 points vs. Chicago. It was a versatile attack that picked up for Trae Young who had just 5 points. The win snapped a 2-game losing streak for Atlanta and keeps alive at least a glimmer of postseason hopes for the Hawks who are still in 12th in the East.
Atlanta is 7.5 GB from a playoff spot but they aren’t complete pushovers. On January 15th for example everything was clicking as the Hawks beat OKC 142 to 126. Collins had 26, Young 24, and Alex Len also pitched in 24 points off the bench. That game was at home, but it’s the kind of performance that Atlanta will need to get a win in Portland.
Portland Trail Blazers
Portland returns home after a quick 3-game road trip in which they went 2-1. The Trail Blazers had Friday night off but they are actually more rested than it appears thanks to a 14 point win over Phoenix on Thursday. In that contest Terry Stotts was able to preserve some resources as Damian Lillard (29:31), CJ McCollum (25:22) and Jusuf Nurkic (23:48) were all used sparingly.
Will it be another relaxing night for Portland as they are double digit favorites coming into the contest vs. Atlanta? Lillard might not need a whole lot of court time to make an impact as he’s gone for 24+ points in seven straight games. McCollum had a 31 point game vs. OKC on Tuesday and Nurkic gives the Blazers a huge edge on the boards.
Portland has to avoid getting complacent in this one as they should get the outright victory with little problem. The ‘Blazers have been solid in that regard lately as they’ve 4-1 ATS their last 5 vs. a team with a winning percentage below .400%. Portland is also 36-16-1 ATS their last 53 home games.
NBA Betting Trends:
- Hawks are 4-0 ATS their last four vs. Western Conference
- Hawks are 7-3 ATS their last 10 road games
- Hawks are 5-2 ATS their last 7 vs. a team with a winning home record
- Trail Blazers are 4-1 ATS their last 5 overall
- Trail Blazers are 5-1 ATS their last 6 vs. Eastern onference
Free Atlanta Hawks vs. Portland Trail Blazers NBA Prediction:
It’s going to be hard for Atlanta to get the outright win in the very tough Moda Center but do they get blown out? The Hawks do have some young horses in players like Trae Young and they’ll definitely get a boost with Huerter back in the lineup. The Hawks have also had the last two nights off compared to Portland just one.
4* Free NBA Betting Pick: Hawks +10.5
