The pivotal Game 5 between the eighth-seeded Atlanta Hawks and top East seed Miami Heat tips off on Tuesday, April 26th. The Heat leads the series 3-1 and will be seeking the gentleman’s sweep in Game 5.
In the three victories, the Heat have won by an average of 19.3 points and the lone loss was by a single point.
The Heat holds the all-time record having bested the Hawks in 73 of their 130 matches. This is the third time the clubs are meeting in the postseason with Atlanta winning both prior series 3-2 in 1994 and 4-3 in 2009.
Atlanta Hawks
Upon returning home to Atlanta the Hawks collected their first victory in the series but weren’t able to follow it up with a second. Despite getting Clint Capella back and the Heat not having Kyle Lowry the Hawks never looked like they were in the match.
Trae Young had a rough night scoring only nine points on 3 of 11 and 10 of those shots were from the perimeter punctuating how the Heat have shut down the driving lanes to the paint.
In addition to the Heat swarming Young defensively, he also was felled by a sore foot after Gabe Vincent stepped on it during the first quarter.
Typically when Young struggles to score he maintains the ability to set up his teammates, but he dished only five dimes and also had five turnovers.
In fact, while Miami has defended the sniper well, arguably the most impressive part of their scheme is limiting his playmaking ability evidenced by an equal number of assists and turnovers through four games (24).
DeAndre Hunter led the Hawks in scoring with 24 with only two other Hawks reaching double-figures – – John Collins with 11 points and Kevin Knox who chipped in 12 points in the four minutes of garbage time that he played.
Lou Williams (back) is questionable for Tuesday.
Miami Heat
Following the Game 3 one-point loss that the Heat felt they should’ve won the team hit the court focused on a mission to get the series back on track.
Without Lowry available, as predicted the ball was in Jimmy Butler’s hand much more and it paid dividends. Miami trailed by a single point after the first but pulled away in the second quarter via a 30-15 frame but this time didn’t give the Hawks any hope of making a run.
Butler served up a double-double of 36 points and 10 rebounds. In the series, Butler is reminding everyone who questioned his performance in last season’s playoffs why he’s still considered one of the top 15 to 20 players in the NBA.
He’s averaging 30.5 points, 7.8 rebounds, 5.3 assists, and 2.8 steals while shooting 54.3 percent from the field and 43.8 percent from the perimeter on 4.0 attempts per game.
All five Heat starters scored in double-digits with PJ Tucker and Bam Adebayo offering 14 points, Max Strus had 12 and Gabe Vincent who replaced the ailing Lowry chipped in 11.
Lowry (hamstring) is questionable for Tuesday and very unlikely to play since the Heat can afford to give him extra time to rest that sore hamstring.

Free Atlanta Hawks vs. Miami Heat NBA Prediction:
Young’s foot may have impacted the last game but in truth, Miami is just a far superior team to the Hawks who looked like they were already making vacation plans in their minds mid-way through the second half of Game 4.
Butler isn’t going to want to travel back to Atlanta so he’ll have his crew dialed in for this match as the Heat get the gentleman’s sweep.
