Atlanta Hawks
After shooting 39 percent from three-point range in a feel-good first season with Atlanta at the age of 42, Vince Carter hasn’t enjoyed the same level of success this season.

He’ll turn 43 in January and perhaps his percentages will be better by then but right now he’s shooting 25 percent on not insignificant volume from deep (3.7 attempts per game).
John Collins still has more than ten games to go on his suspension for violating the league’s drug policy. Kevin Huerter has missed nearly half of the Hawks’ games and is still rehabbing his shoulder.
It has left Trae Young little to work with and the diminutive guard will have a lot on his plate following the Thanksgiving holiday with a game in Indiana on Friday followed by this one immediately after.
The Rockets are going to run, run, run the Hawks and see if they can keep up. Given the spot and the deficiencies in the supporting cast, it isn’t likely Atlanta will be up to the task in this one.
Houston Rockets
The Rockets haven’t been quite as high-octane as we have been used to seeing and maybe some expected with the addition of Russell Westbrook.

The reality is that Westbrook slows you down. Even if Chris Paul wasn’t playing his best basketball, he still ran a true point guard spot and got the ball to his teammates. Westbrook can’t keep the ball moving; he never has been able to and probably never will be able to.
So while he provides the Rockets some cushion with Harden on the bench as a playmaker, he’s just not the best fit when it comes to putting the best five-man lineup on the floor for the Rockets.
Houston is still taking, and making, the most three-pointers in the league but its dead-last in twos; it scores not the most points in the league this year but the third-most; and it ranks 26th in assists.
That said, Westbrook does make the defense better with his ferocity alone. He might slow the Rockets down but he makes them tougher on defense. It’s just a slightly different style than we’ve grown to expect but Houston is still lethal, especially against vulnerable opponents.
