Monday, March 7th the Atlanta Hawks and Detroit Pistons play for the second of their three scheduled matches this season. Atlanta won the initial contest 122-104 on October 25th and Detroit will host the final meeting on March 23rd.
Both teams played a back-to-back set on Thursday-Friday and got the weekend off. Detroit beat the Raptors 108-106 and followed it up with a 111-106 defeat of the Pacers.
Atlanta was equally successful capturing a 130-124 victory versus the Bulls 130-124 then went into Washington and defeated the Wizards 117-114.
Last season, the teams played three times with the Hawks winning two of the three contests. The PIstons hold the all-time record having bested the Hawks in 223 of their 436 matches
Atlanta Hawks
Entering week 21 of action the Hawks sit in the 10th seed but are in a three-way tie with the Hornets and Nets and are 2.0 games up on the Wizards. They are 2.5 games back of the seventh-place Raptors who lead their series 2-1 but they’ll play once more on April 5th in Toronto.
They have 19 games remaining on their schedule (10 on the road) with half against teams seeded eighth or higher. Tankathon ranks their remaining strength of schedule as the second easiest in the association.

Since the seven-game winning streak, the Hawks are playing .500 ball with a record of 7-7.
Trae Young had a rough shooting night versus the Wizards (6 of 22) but produced 25 points, eight assists, and four rebounds. Clint Capela delivered a double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds.
DeAndre Hunter led the team with 26 points while Bogdan Bogdanovic and Danilo Gallinari scored 17 and 10 points respectively as the other double-figure contributors.
John Collins returned after a seven-game absence and came in off the bench to ease back into action. Collins scored nine points along with six rebounds, an assist, a steal, and a block in 25 minutes.
Onyeka Okongwu (concussion) was upgraded to probable after missing the last two games. DeAndre Hunter (shoulder) left the last game after getting injured and Kevin Huerter (shoulder) are both questionable to play in Detroit.
Detroit Pistons
Don’t look now but the Pistons are one of the hottest teams in the association with five wins in their last seven matches. To put that in perspective that’s almost a third of their total victories (17) on the season.
Part of the ascent is tied to the trio of Cade Cunningham, Jerami Grant, and Saddiq Bey who have found a rhythm and are all long, athletic players. Cunningham has a versatile game, Grant is playing more in the mid-range while Bey has been hot from the perimeter.
But all three are also capable of putting the ball on the floor and driving to get buckets at the rim and are stealth defenders. It’s causing opposing teams some problems and they quite literally own the Raptors who they swept for the second consecutive season.
Hamidou Diallo (ankle) is questionable and Frank Jackson (back) is out indefinitely.

Atlanta Hawks vs. Detroit Pistons NBA Prediction:
In the last two games the Hawks got a huge advantage at the charity stripe – – they shot 28 free throws to the Bulls seven and 34 to the Wizards nine.
The league has seemingly backed off the mandate to stop offensive-induced fouls with Young getting similar attempts to what he was getting prior to the new rule being implemented. But the fact DeRozan who is one of the league leaders got only two attempts is odd.
The Pistons will need to be wary of this disadvantage as the league seems intent on helping the Hawks secure their play-in seed.
