2023 NBA Sixth Man of the Year Odds
Have you swung by Cappers Picks today looking for 2023 NBA Sixth Man of the Year Handicapping Odds? If so, then you’re in the right place! The NBA season is about to start and with it speculation on who’ll earn the Sixth Man award for the 2023 season.
2023 NBA Handicapping
Of all the individual awards Sixth Man of the Year typically draws from a smaller cast and those individuals frequently start games especially if there is a long-term injury on their squad.
This year, for example, it’s likely Brandon Clarke of the Grizzlies will replace Jaren Jackson Jr. until he returns from his injury. Similarly, Cameron Johnson and Kevin Huerter who are on the list below won’t likely be eligible to register 50 percent of their games coming off the bench. Johnson is likely to replace the departing Jae Crowder and the Kings have tapped Huerter to start.
With that, let’s take a peek at the players projected with the best odds to collect the award.
Jordan Poole (+475)
Coming off the championship the Warriors will undoubtedly look to rest Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Andrew Wiggins, and Draymond Green more minutes in games and also give them days off.
The resulting effect is more will be required from the youngsters on the roster and Jordan Poole will be the player gaining the most from this.
Poole had a stellar 2021-22 campaign averaging 18.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game while shooting 36.4 percent from the perimeter on 7.6 attempts per game.
With an increased role this season and the likelihood that Steve Kerr will tap Poole to be featured more makes him a great pick for this award.
Tyler Herro (+500)
The reigning Sixth Man just collected on his successful season by signing a $130 million, four-year contract extension. Herro faded in the playoffs though so his work in the lab this offseason was to gain muscle and add more defensive prowess to his already lethal offense.
Christian Wood (+1200)
Although it was a surprise to Wood that he would be coming off the bench it’s a smart move by Jason Kidd who wants more of a defensive presence (JaVale McGee) in the starting rotation.
It also provides the Mavericks with a scoring presence off the bench when Luka Doncic sits. Given the Mavericks ranked 24th in bench scoring he could prove to be the missing piece of the puzzle for Kidd’s squad.
Malcolm Brogdon+1300
This feels like more of a nod to the team than the player since Brogdon is much more likely to be tasked with dishing the ball to the other reserves and maintaining the defensive intensity.
It also won’t be surprising if Brogdon ends up closing games given his two-way presence. Derrick White carved out a nice spot in the Celtics rotation when he was added at the trade deadline last season but struggled to find consistency so Brogdon could prove invaluable in that regard.
Complete 2023 Sixth Man of the Year Lines:
Like many awards, the Sixth Man winner generally comes from one of the top teams since their contributions are heralded as one of the keys to success. Tyler Herro nabbed the honors in 2022 while Jordan Clarkson got the hardware in 2021 with both playing for the top seeds in their respective conferences.
Based on the list the oddsmakers certainly deem the Clippers and Cavaliers as two of the deepest teams in the association given they both have multiple entries cited.
A bit surprising is the absence of any Raptors on the list, especially Precious Achiuwa or Chris Boucher. While Nick Nurse’s bench finished with the fewest points per game last year part of that was tied to the copious and constant injuries the team navigated requiring the bench players to be tapped to start.
