2023 NBA Most Improved Player of the Year Odds
Have you swung by Cappers Picks today looking for 2023 NBA Most Improved Player of the Year Handicapping Odds? If so, then you’re in the right place! The NBA season is about to start and with it speculation on who’ll earn the Most Improved Player award for the 2023 season.
2023 NBA Handicapping
Other than Rookie of the Year, this is the one award that isn’t contingent on winning. Rather, it’s a measure of the strides an individual takes over their prior season’s production.
That equates to players who are getting more opportunities on a losing squad to hoist the award. Three of the top four ranked players in the odds fall into this category with Tyrese Haliburton of the Pacers at the top of that list.
It’s also conceivable the Pacers will be heavily invested in tanking in order to increase their odds of snagging generational talents Victor Wenbamyama or Scoot Henderson in the 2023 draft so don’t be surprised if a sudden mysterious injury removes talent from teams like the Pacers who’ll be fully invested in nabbing one of those prime draft positions.
Anthony Edwards (+1000)
The favorite to win Most Improved is Minnesota Timberwolves youngster Anthony Edwards. The 21-year-old shooting guard served up 21.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 3.8 assists and shot 35.7 percent from deep in his sophomore season.
Edwards delivered in his first postseason experience upping his season totals to 25.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 3.0 assists while chipping in 1.2 steals and 1.2 blocks and connected on 40.4 percent of his perimeter shots.
Edwards doesn’t lack confidence stating he believed he was capable of also being All-Defense. With the addition of Rudy Gobert, he’ll have a great partner to help in that regard.
The Wolves are expected to take another leap this season and if Edwards shows consistency delivering stats close to his playoff production he’ll be a strong bet to take home MIP.
Tyrese Haliburton (+1700)
The deal that sent Tyrese Haliburton to the Pacers was arguably the most shocking of the trade deadline given he was presumed untouchable and fellow point guard De’Aaron Fox the player more available.
Instead, Haliburton lands with Indiana in the middle of a rebuild that will feature him as a main piece of the puzzle. The point guard played 51 games with Sacramento in his sophomore season and 26 with Indiana.
With a bigger role on the Pacers he witnessed an uptick in production averaging a near double-double of 17.5 points and 9.6 assists plus 4.3 rebounds and 1.8 steals while shooting 41.6 percent from deep on 5.3 attempts.
LaMelo Ball (+1900)
The Hornets who lost to the Hawks in a play-in game last season aren’t expected to be one of the 10 to 12 teams in the thick of the playoff race.
Rather it’s likely GM Mitch Kupchak will be jettisoning talent for draft picks that the team can piece around cornerstone LaMelo Ball and rebuild yet again.
Prior to the trade deadline it’s feasible that Ball and Haliburton will put up career stats but afterward, it’s also a good bet their teams will shut them down to ensure they land one of the coveted bottom-three seeds to get priority draft position.
RJ Barrett (+2100)
Optimism abounds in the Mecca with Barrett leading the charge stating he expects the Knicks to shock the world this season. For his projection to come true the Canadian will need to take a big leap in production. And, if that occurs he’ll be right in the mix to win MIP.
