The Bucks and Sixers are the co-favorites to claim the East this season. It would be the first time in a while for both franchises.
NBA Eastern Conference 2019 Odds: Milwaukee Bucks (5/4)
The Bucks looked like they were going to get it done in the East last season until Game 3 of the Conference Finals when the Raptors got one, that led to two, three, and then four in a row.
Milwaukee returns much of the same team around Giannis Antetokounmpo this season but it did lose a little more than it brought in.
The Bucks did manage to re-sign Kris Middleton, who is now the highest-paid player on the team, making over $30 million this season. As a result, Malcolm Brogdon, who was a restricted free agent, left for Indiana, which gave him a four-year deal worth $85 million.
Tony Snell went to Detroit and Nikola Mirotic, who never really worked out for Milwaukee after coming over from New Orleans in the middle of last season, left to go play in Spain.

The Bucks brought in Robin Lopez to team up with his twin brother Brook. They may be twins but they play different styles. Brook will keep splashing three-pointers and spreading the floor while Robin will play inside and run the floor, crashing the boards and blocking shots. He’ll take some of the interior burden off of Giannis.
Wes Matthews will replace Brogdon. Plus, the Bucks have some young pieces that may take steps forward this season, including Donte DiVincenzo, Pat Connaughton, Sterling Brown, and DJ Wilson.
NBA Eastern Conference 2019 Odds: Philadelphia 76ers (3/2)
The Sixers are large favorites to win the Atlantic Division after taking Al Horford from Boston.
Horford got the best of Joel Embiid in Boston’s matchups with Philly over the years. Now, he’s a Sixers and teams up with Horford to create one of the more interesting big combinations in the league.
The acquisitions of Trey Burke and Josh Richardson are running under the radar though. Richardson was Miami’s best player a year ago and Burke will give the Sixers a replacement for TJ McConnell.

Tobias Harris will have full reign on the wing with the departures of both Jimmy Butler and JJ Reddick. He’s got to return to All-Star form after struggling a bit with Philly last season after the midseason trade.
NBA Eastern Conference 2019 Odds: Boston Celtics (15/2)
The question for Boston is whether it will have enough bigs to compete with Embiid and Horford, plus Giannis and the Lopez twins. It’s hard to imagine it does.
That said, the Celtics will run and play scrappy defense with Kemba Walker and Jayson Tatum leading the offense and Marcus Smart and Jaylen Brown locking down the perimeter. This team has a much clearer path forward than last year’s team did.
Gordon Hayward has been lost in all of it. If he returns to form after last season’s transition back to the court, Boston is as good as any in the East.
NBA Eastern Conference 2019 Odds: Brooklyn Nets (10/1)
The Nets actually have shorter odds to win the conference than they do to win their own division. That’s due to the unique position they are in with Kevin Durant.
The plan is for Durant to return toward the end of the season and team up with Kyrie Irving to give Brooklyn a duo that can compete with the big guns out West.
If will be all about fit. Durant won’t simply be able to come back at the end of the season and carry his team to the Finals but if he gets back with some weeks to play and gets acclimated, there’s no reason to believe he can’t do what Kawhi Leonard did a year ago.
After all, he’s the best player in the Eastern Conference. Right?

NBA Eastern Conference 2019 Prediction: Boston (15/2)
I’m looking for the Celtics to surprise some people this season. It’s a team fit with Brad Stevens loyalists and after last season’s embarrassment, Stevens will right the ship with his team-oriented system. If the Celtics can find a couple of bigs to bang with the talent in the East, they will out-play the opposition everywhere else.
