2018-2019 NBA Previews – Spurs Odds
Looking for 2018 San Antonio Spurs Predictions? We’ve got your back. San Antonio finished last season 47-35, finishing seventh in the NBA’s Western Conference. That was the fewest number of wins for this franchise since the 1998-99 lockout season, and if you only include full 82-game slates, you’d have to travel back to the 1996-97 campaign to find a worse record.

Theoretically, this team should be better in 2018-19. Kawhi Leonard hardly played last season and now the Spurs have replaced him with an All-Star and arguably the greatest player in Toronto Raptors history, DeMar DeRozan.
Chemistry, however, has to be a concern (especially with both Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker gone from the roster). The wheels seemed to fall off last year with the Kawhi injury situation, so San Antonio is hoping that a fresh leadership voice in the locker room can alleviate some of the concerns surrounding a team that will have to work on its cohesiveness leading up to and during the season.
San Antonio Spurs Strengths:
All that said…this is still the Spurs. Gregg Popovich is still the head coach, meaning you can’t count them out really at any point in the season.

On the court, you can’t discount the fact that the team has two legitimate All-Stars in DeRozan and LaMarcus Aldridge. Those two know how to score the basketball, and they’re both underrated defenders at this point in their careers.
Along those lines, these two are going to lead a very smart group as two players with extremely high basketball IQs. DeRozan in particular is coming off the 2017-18 season with plenty of momentum, as it was possibly his best campaign to date.
One piece who hasn’t been given any sort of spotlight following the trade that Brough over DeRozan is Jakob Poeltl. The young big has a real chance to explode on the scene under Popovich.
Many bigs have done that before him, and he’s hoping to be the next in line.
San Antonio Spurs Weaknesses:
Aldridge and DeRozan are the masters of the mid-range game at their respective positions. That’s not a bad thing. After all, both of these players have been considered fringe superstars for a very long time, so dominating one aspect of the game helps them carve out a niche in their offenses when offenses are struggling to flow.
But oh man do they play an old-school kinda game.

The least efficient shot in the NBA is the mid-range jumper. That’s why coaches like Mike D’Antoni have adapted a layup-or-three policy. It’s also why NBA defenses are doing everything they can to keep that shot relatively open while defending the rim and the perimeter.
Aldridge and DeRozan aren’t going to instantly become three-point specialists or low-post dominators, but they do need to prove they’re more versatile than their career resumes indicate.
If they don’t, opposing defenses are going to have a field day night in and night out.

San Antonio Spurs Betting Prediction: 46-36
You just can’t count this team out of the playoffs. And yes, they should be better this season with DeRozan on board. But it’s also difficult imagining them competing with the upper-echelon of the league on any serious level.
When Vegas announced the NBA’s over/under wins projection for all 30 teams, the Spurs were pegged at 43.5. But that seems low.
Give this team 46 wins on the year, which no, is not better than last season. But the team overall should be better when the year is all said and done.
The bigger problem is that everyone else around them got better.
The Spurs as we know them are dead, and so are their chances at a Larry O’Brien Trophy this season, barring something wild happening.
