Looking for 2018 Sacramento Kings Predictions? We’ve got your back. Sacramento finished last season 27-55, finishing 12th in the NBA’s Western Conference and earning the No. 2 pick in this past June’s draft. With that pick, Sacramento took promising young big man Marvin Bagley III out of Duke.

Bagley, a former first-overall consideration among draft scouts, is a talented scorer at the rim, but the concern is his ceiling. Did Sacramento take yet another player high in the process that won’t live up to his draft spot? Only time will tell…but we have some thoughts on his upcoming rookie season, as well as the 2018-19 campaign at large for the Kings.
Sacramento Kings Strengths:
There aren’t a whole lot of strengths to highlight when it comes to the Kings, but we’ll give this a shot.
For starters, this squad has a promising young core, starting with Bagley. But it goes beyond the No. 2 overall pick in the 2018 draft class. It extends to De’Aaron Fox entering his rookie season. Buddy Hield has a lot of questions to answer, but it’s too early to add the bust label—even if that time is creeping up—to his name.
In the front court you’ve also go Harry Giles, a former No. 1 projected overall pick before numerous knee injuries. He missed all of last season, so expectations are low despite a relatively high ceiling and excellent talent level.
Although a young group like this is more a strength for the future (assuming the majority of pieces live up to expectations), you can count on them playing with a ton of energy in 2018-19.
Sacramento shockingly played at the NBA’s slowest pace last season, which is ironic considering Fox may be the fastest player in the league from one end of the court to the other with the ball. If he can get folks moving this year, the Kings should be able to get some cheap—and much-needed—buckets night in and night out.
Sacramento Kings Weaknesses:
The downside to having your strength be future upside is that you likely don’t have a go-to option/star presence. And that’s exactly the case for this Kings roster.
Who will Sacramento turn to when buckets are becoming even more necessary? Who is going to be a leader both on the court and in the locker room?
Last season, the Kings were 29th out of 30 teams in offensive efficiency, scoring just 101.1 points per 100 possessions. That’s about as bad as it gets—except when you think about how this group was also 27th in defensively efficiency, allowing opponents to score 109 points per 100 possessions.
This team should improve on offense with Bagley making his presence known at the rim, but the defense is still going to be a problem (as will the offense at large, if we’re being honest).
Getting those cheap, easy buckets we talked about earlier will be crucial for when Bagley is struggling against stronger veteran competition down low.
Sacramento Kings Betting Prediction: 25-57
Vegas has set the Kings’ over/under wins projection to 25.5, the second-lowest number across the league behind only the Atlanta Hawks.
Truth be told, picking the over isn’t crazy. On paper, this team improved with Bagley and theoretically the return of Harry Giles. But there are just so many questions surrounding this roster (and franchise) that picking the under is the safer bet at this point in the process.
Put the Kings down for the same number of wins as a year ago. Next season we’ll talk about actual improvement.
