2018-2019 NBA Previews – Magic Odds
Looking for 2018 Orlando Magic Predictions? We’ve got your back. Orlando finished last season 25-57, finishing 14th in the NBA’s Eastern Conference. Orlando has a lot of question to answer, but there’s one thing that’s for sure: This team is a year away from being a year away (at best). Orlando isn’t looking to compete this year, but it has plenty of young talent to develop.

The ideal situation is a whole bunch of close losses. That would mean a high draft pick and a ceiling getting higher entering the 2019-20 season.
Orlando Magic Strengths:
One of the biggest bright spots on this roster is going to come off the bench in 2018-19. And believe it or not, he’s a rookie.

Mo Bamba is a big-time prospect. He’s currently slated to play behind Nikola Vucevic, and understandably so considering Vucevic has been—health aside—a very reliable piece.
But Bamba—a prospect with a 7’10” wing span out of Texas—is looking to potentially become the NBA’s next unicorn. Look for him to get significant run throughout the year, and look for his minutes to increase the further into the season we get.
Aaron Gordon is also worth noting here. The 22-year-old’s ceiling remains high, and although it’s taking him longer to reach it than some expected, it’s not surprising considering his position has been switched back and forth from power forward and small forward throughout his young career.
The hope here is the Steve Clifford can get him into a specific role that remains consistent throughout the year.
If that can happen, this kid has All-Star potential written all over him—beyond just the Slam Dunk Contest.
Orlando Magic Weaknesses:
Although Bamba is going to come off the bench, this team lacks depth. And more specifically, it has a serious talent lack behind its top two players.

When looking at the Magic’s roster, it’s tough to identify a true core. Evan Fournier showed some breakout potential last season, but he still doesn’t look like a player you can count on to be a second option (or even a third on some nights).
D.J. Augustin and Jonathon Simmons have proven to be reliable at the point guard and small forward positions, respectively, but again, these aren’t guys you can count on night in and night out to make a difference.

Finding consistent production is going to be hugely problematic from Game 1 to Game 82 during the 2018-19 season, and that’s not good for getting wins.
Then again, this team has no desire to acquire wins this season, so its ultimate weakness might end up being a strength when the year is all said and done.
Orlando Magic Betting Prediction: 27-55
When Vegas put out its over/under wins projections, Orlando was pegged at 31.5. Quite frankly, that seems high.
Despite the Magic owning so many lottery picks over the last handful of years, things just haven’t led to any sort of significant improvement.
Twenty-seven wins is what we’ve landed on at this juncture, but if the Magic end up starting out slowly, that admittedly low number could be ambitious.
Bamba’s growth will be the most exciting thing about this team this season, and it’ll be what you should keep an eye on for when it comes to both how the team plays and also how much momentum it will have entering 2019-20.
