2018-2019 NBA Previews – Heat Odds
Looking for 2018 Miami Heat Predictions? We’ve got your back. Miami finished last season 44-38, finishing sixth in the NBA’s Eastern Conference. As far as their offseason went, well, it was kind of a bore. But that’s what most expected, barring a significant trade involving center Hassan Whiteside.

We’re also still technically waiting on the decision of Dwyane Wade on whether to retire or run it back, but most expect the eventual Hall of Fame isn’t ready to call it quits just yet.
Miami Heat Strengths:
The Heat have something on their side that you simply can’t look past in any situation, but especially when you were a playoff team a year prior and the top of your conference remains wide open with LeBron James heading West.
That thing is continuity.

Whether or not Wade comes back, this team is going to look largely the same as the one that qualified for the sixth seed out East. Wade was never a crucial part of last season’s playoff run, so getting him back is more like a bonus than a necessity.
Miami Heat Weaknesses:
The problem with continuity is when it comes from a mediocre squad. Sixth out East is nothing to scoff at, but the team was middle of the road in most major categories, and quite frankly, it never looked like a contender.

The tough part here is going to be finding internal growth. Whiteside can still get better, but how much is the first question; the second question is do the Heat even want him to reach his ceiling with them as his potential is still a nice bargaining chip on the trade block.
The majority of the roster, though, is what it is. Goran Tragic is a borderline All-Star (he made the game last season by virtue of injuries on the voted-in roster), but if anything, he’s in his prime at best and on the decline at worst. Tyler Johnson isn’t getting any better, which is mostly a problem because his contract is about to look even more bloated than it did when he signed it.
Kelly Olynyk and James Johnson are nice bigs but, again, neither will be any better this season than last year. On the perimeter, the same thing applies to Dion Waiters and most likely Josh Richardson.
If you’re looking for potential, have a peek at Bam Adebayo at backup center. But as long as Whiteside is on the roster, Adebayo will have to wait his turn to be featured.
Miami Heat Betting Prediction: 45-37
The Heat were given an over/under projection of 41.5. That seems low for this team, even if this team isn’t going to be one that competes for a title in June.
If Miami lives up to its potential, it’ll be another mid-level playoff opponent that can give an unsuspecting team problems.

And that’s not a bad place to be in a league that’s almost waiting for the Golden State Warriors to no longer be everyone’s automatic favorites.
The questions will really start to pile up if this roster is using continuity as its biggest strength two or three years down the road.
Until then, Heat fans should enjoy the ride being an underrated team in a wide-open conference.
