2018-2019 NBA Previews – Clippers Odds
Looking for 2018 LA Clippers Predictions? We’ve got your back. LA finished last season 42-40, finishing 10th in the NBA’s Western Conference, and quite a season it was. The year began with a new-look roster, as the team tried to replace Chris Paul with the likes of Danilo Gallinari, Patrick Beverley, Sam Dekker, Montrezl Harrell and Milos Teodosic.

But things got weirder when Doc Rivers and Co. sent “Clipper for Life” Blake Griffin to the Detroit Pistons for Boban Marjanovic, Avery Bradley and Tobias Harris. Now, the final piece to Lob City, DeAndre Jordan is gone as well. Vegas set the over/under win projection for LA at 35.5.
LA Clippers Strengths:
Lou Williams is going to be the star on this team. That’s not necessarily a good thing (more on that later), but it is a bright spot knowing you have a microwave scorer off the bench to come in and make up for what the starting unit lacks.

Despite lacking another clear-cut offensive option, the Clips have more depth than a lot of people realize. They also have more of a prospect-veteran balance than most think about as well.
As far as veterans go, newcomer Marcin Gortat has played in many playoff games and is a nice pick-and-roll piece on offense. Patrick Beverley should also be healthy, which is huge for LA’s three-point shooting and perimeter defense.
Although the list of vets actually goes on (Danilo Gallinari, Luc Mbah a Moute, Avery Bradley, etc.), there are a few young bloods worth highlighting. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander may be third on the depth chart at the point guard position, but he brings with him a much higher ceiling the No. 2 PG Milos Teodosic.
LA used its second lottery pick to select Jerome Robinson, shooting guard out of Boston College. Although Robinson won’t see a ton of time this season behind Lou Williams and Avery Bradley, he’s the perfect young piece to develop in the background for when the older pieces in the backcourt either move on from the roster or (crosses fingers for all of Clipper Nation) falls to injury.
LA Clippers Weaknesses:
The Clippers lack star power in a bad way. From a fan perspective, that just means they’re not very watchable. That’s a weakness any team can live with as long as they’re winning, but we don’t expect the Clips to play many meaningful games between Game 1 and Game 82 on the year.
The bigger issue when it comes to a lack of star power is that you often fail to execute when it matters most. Yes, Williams will be an option both early and down the stretch, but despite his isolation habits he’s not someone who can come out and score in volume while still making a difference.
Usually his volume scoring, while being highly entertaining to watch, does nothing to get the rest of his teammates involved in the action.

Defensively, LA was nearly a bottom-10 team in terms of points allowed per 100 possession in 2017-18.
That will need to change if this team hopes to stay competitive beyond the All-Star break.
LA Clippers Betting Prediction: 34-48
The question with the Clippers isn’t whether or not they’re going to make the playoffs. The West is too tough and they’ve simply had too much turnover since the 2017 offseason.
Whether or not they can hit their over/under mark, however, is one that reasonable folks can disagree on and still make valid points.
If 35.5 is the number, we’re going slightly under. And this really does have more to do with their opponents than their own roster.

In a vacuum (or maybe a better example would be in the Eastern Conference), the Clips have a talented squad with more depth than most will give them credit for. But out West? They’re going to be a punching bag night in and night out.
Thirty-six to 37 wins isn’t out of the question, but neither is 33 to 34 with this team.
