Detroit landed “Clipper for life” Blake Griffin to add star power and an All-Star power forward in exchange for depth. It wasn’t a move big enough to make the postseason, but that could very well change in 2018-19 with a full year under Griffin’s Pistons belt.
Detroit Pistons Strengths:
As much as folks want to talk about Blake Griffin and Andre Drummond (don’t worry, we’ll do some of that too), this team’s success seems to come and go with the presence of Reggie Jackson.
Jackson, a point guard who is often times over looked as a second- or third-tier player at the 1 position, seems to be the secret to making the postseason. When he’s on the floor, healthy and playing well, a playoff trip becomes far more likely.
Jackson’s ability to both shoot and create makes him the versatile guard that teams across the league wish they had and hate to try and stop.

As far as Griffin and Drummond go, there are only a small handful of power forward/center duos in the league with more talent. Drummond is a machine rebounding the basketball and can be a mean defender as well. He even showed signs of improvement at the foul line in 2017-18, which has always been his biggest weakness.
Griffin, on the other hand, has shown that he’s probably never going to live up to the superstar status (at least as far as on-court production goes) that we all projected him to earn early in his career. But that’s okay.
He’s still a very good scorer and he’s slowly (even if the progress has halted a bit) added pieces to his offensive game that continue making him a threat even as he loses some of the bunnies that earned him a posterizing reputation during his first few seasons.
Detroit Pistons Weaknesses:
Despite having Jackson, Griffin and Drummond at the top, there are a lot of questions when it comes to the young talent trying to break through. And that starts with Stanley Johnson.

Johnson, a former eighth overall pick and Arizona Wildcat, hasn’t yet come into his own. He’s still just 23 years old entering his fourth season, but last year saw him “improve” up to his rookie year standards after a terrible drop-off in Year 2.
The Pistons also have young talent in Luke Kennard, Glenn Robinson III, Bruce Brown and others.
Until we see significant improvement from these young bloods, they and their question marks have to be considered weaknesses.
Detroit Pistons Betting Prediction: 40-42
The Detroit Pistons have been given over/under wins-loss projects in the 36-38 games range depending on where you look. And quite frankly, that’s about right.
But if you assume that this team is going to stay healthy (admittedly quite the assumption), you’d be silly to give them fewer than 40 wins in your own projection.

The Eastern Conference remains weak, and beyond the first three seeds, just about anything can happen.
We’re pegging this Pistons squad for 40 wins at this point in the process.
