2018-2019 NBA Previews – Cavaliers Odds
Looking for 2018 Cleveland Cavaliers Predictions? We’ve got your back. Cleveland finished last season 50-32, finishing fourth in the NBA’s Eastern Conference. But if we’re being honest, there’s really no reason to look back at what the Cavs did last year. LeBron James has taken his talents to Southern California, and the Cavs are a whole new team to analyze entering the 2018-19 campaign.

Cleveland Cavaliers Strengths:
I know it sounds crazy, but hear me out here…the Cleveland Cavaliers are still looking like winners from the Kyrie Irving-Isaiah Thomas trade.
Not the winners, per se. But winners in their own rights.

The trade that sent Irving to Boston and brought back Thomas, Jae Crowder and the Brooklyn Nets’ first-round pick was disastrous most of last season. But it needed to happen. If it hadn’t happened, there would be no Collin Sexton in The Land.
Although Sexton isn’t going to make the Cavs a title contender in Year 1 of his NBA career, he’s one of the favorites for Rookie of the Year among his peers. He’s a big, fast, explosive point guard who plays in a style that belongs somewhere between a healthy Eric Bledsoe and Russell Westbrook.
Furthermore, he gives this team exactly what it needs: A silver lining in the early stages of the post-LeBron era.
Retaining Kevin Love is nice, but at the price it cost the Cavaliers to do it, you needed more than anything a consistent second scorer—not to mention someone who can make plays for your No. 1 option (a guy who isn’t going to do a whole lot of isolation scoring on his own).
Larry Nance Jr. looks like the center/power forward of the future while we could potentially see other breakout years from players like George Hill and Jordan Clarkson.
But Sexton is the future of this organization, and, coming from a team that chose not to tank when it had every justifiable reason to do so, the Cavs are hoping the future has already arrived.
Cleveland Cavaliers Weaknesses:
Does not having LeBron James count? We’re going to say yes.
[dfads params=’groups=226&limit=1&return_javascript=1′]
Any time you lose the best player on the planet for nothing (or anything really, as the Cavs found out in 2010), it has to be a talking point. Cleveland is officially without its best scorer, facilitator, creator and locker room presence.
The Cavs are going to desperately grasp at any straw available when it comes to marketable players on the roster, but as far as on the court is concerned, it’s going to be Love, Sexton and then an insert-third-option-here situation.
You thought the scoring was stagnant at times last season with LeBron running down the clock in iso mode? You thought the Cavs lacked a playmaker and third option after Kyrie was shipped off to Boston?
You thought the offense had a tough time making up for the league’s second-worst defense, which was only better than the lowly and desperately tanking Phoenix Suns?
Think again. You ain’t seen nothing yet.
Cleveland Cavaliers Betting Prediction: 29-53
If you’re one for underdog stories, you’re going to want to believe that the Cavs, presumably left in James’ dust, are going to make the playoffs. You’re going to want to believe that this team, under the leadership of Love, is going to play with far less drama, far more freewill, and a desire to prove everyone wrong.
If you’re one for underdog stories, that would be an incredible way for this Cavs season to play out.
Just don’t get your hopes up.

Odds are, as evidenced by oddsmakers (see above) and Cleveland’s 30.5 over/under wins-loss prediction, this team is not making the playoffs.
Barring a sneaky trade that gets Cleveland either a true third option or another scorer to relieve Sexton, the Cavaliers will fall under their prediction and face questions all year long about whether or not they made the right choice to sign Love and postpone tanking at least one year.
