2018-2019 NBA Previews – Hawks Odds
Looking for 2018 Atlanta Hawks Predictions? We’ve got your back. Atlanta finished last season 24-58, finishing dead last in the NBA’s Eastern Conference. This season, the Hawks are largely expected to be the league’s worst team when it’s all said and done. But this squad does have a couple of intriguing young pieces to build around for the future.

Most notable? That would be Steph Curry-mini, Trae Young out of Oklahoma.
Atlanta Hawks Strengths:
The Atlanta Hawks are going to low-key be one of the most exciting teams nobody will regularly tune into watch. “Low-key” being the operative phrase here.

The youth of the Hawks is something that fans of up-and-coming basketball should be intrigued by. It starts with Trae Young, one of the league’s most intriguing rookies, but extends to big man John Collins and forward Taurean Prince.
This team is going to have many nights where it’s youthfulness fails to close out close games and gets down early, but there are also going to be plenty of games where they’re simply too young and dumb (in a good way) to know they’re out of a game before eventually forcing their way back into it.
The Hawks also have a surprising veteran presence to complement the youngsters. Kent Bazemore may not be considered a navy vet in most eyes, but the 29-year-old has more experience than most care to remember. Dewayne Dedmon is also 29, so while his ceiling has mostly been hit, he’s a good mentor to Collins.
You also can’t forget that the Hawks signed veteran swingman Vince Carter in one of the more surprising acquisitions of the offseason.
Carter’s presence is going to invaluable in the locker room, and his shooting on offense will make him a valuable piece even when he’s on the court despite being the league’s oldest active player.
Atlanta Hawks Weaknesses:
Hooboy. Where to begin?

As bad as the Hawks are going to be, it’s actually problematic that they haven’t fully embraced the tank.
They mostly have, as evidenced by their willingness to ship out Dennis Schroder for cap purposes only, but bringing on veteran guard Jeremy Lin and maintaining some of the older pieces mean they’re going to earn some close wins throughout the year when fans (and likely management) would rather see them lose.
From an X’s and O’s standpoint, defense is going to be a struggle. This group simply doesn’t have the roster makeup to put a lineup out on the floor night in and night out that is designed to stop opponents.
That means this team, despite not wanting to win right away, needs to see significant offensive sparks from Young.
If the 19-year-old can channel anything closely resembling a go-to shot from deep, the Hawks will stay in games on shooting alone.
But when he’s off—and there will be plenty of nights where he tries to look like Stephen Curry and instead shoots 2-of-13 from deep—this team doesn’t stand a chance, as the lack of defense means a blowout is en route.
Atlanta Hawks Betting Prediction: 20-62
The Hawks were given an over/under wins projection of 23.5. That was the worst in the NBA…and it might not actually be low enough.
Unless we get a seriously surprising showing from Young and Collins, this team is going to float around the bottom of the league most of the year.

When it’s all said and done, you’re looking at a 20-win team that will be in contention for the No. 1 pick in the 2019 draft. And that’s just the start: Atlanta also has a chance to obtain the Cleveland Cavaliers’ first-round pick as well as the Dallas Mavericks’ first-rounder.
Losing equals winnings for this team in 2018. The 2019 draft has great potential for this franchise.
Far more potential than the 2018 season.
