The Nationals and the Giants will be ending their series on Sunday afternoon.
Josiah Gray will be matched up with Alex Cobb in this one.
San Francisco is currently laying a heavy price in this one with the total set at 7.5.
Washington Nationals
The Nationals have certainly not played a very good brand of baseball this season and I do not expect them to anytime this year.
Washington is clearly in a rebuild mode and it is going to take a lot of time before they get back to being relevant again. I would not book on that for any time to come.
The struggles for this team are really not all that surprising. I do not think anyone really had them being anything special in 2022.
Right now, they do have some youth on their roster that is talented but those guys are not going to make a difference all on their own. They have to really make some big changes to this roster if they wish to be competitive in the future.
A big area of concern that has to be addressed is their pitching in terms of their starters and bullpen. What they have now is not going to get it cut and if they keep who they have, get used to them continuing to allow a ton of hits and runs.
After beating the Giants in convincing fashion on Friday, the Nats got right back to their losing ways on Saturday when they dropped 9-3. Nothing new there.
Joan Adon went 4 innings and allowed 4 earned runs in their loss to SF. After he left, the bullpen did not do all that much better for them.
Josiah Gray will look to contain this Giants’ offense on Sunday but he certainly will have his hands full with that one. He comes into this game with a record of 2-2 and an ERA of 4.05.
San Francisco Giants
The Giants have gotten off to a very strong start this season and it once again looks like they are a legit team.
This club had a lot of success last season and they surprised some folks. I do not think the shock factor is there anymore as people know this team is very capable and they are going to win a lot of ball games.
San Francisco may not have the flashiest lineup out there but they get the job done more times than not. A staple of them 1-9 is grinding out at-bats and making it tough for the opposing pitchers.
They certainly have had their share of success against the Washington pitchers this season and they are looking for that to keep in the finale of this series. If they are on their game, there is no reason why that isn’t possible.
Getting smoked by as bad as they did on Friday to a team like the Nats was unacceptable but they did what they had to do on Saturday to respond. After a game such as that one, you had to expect San Francisco would like sharper and ready to go in game 2.
Logan Webb went 6 innings and allowed 3 earned runs on Saturday. He did give up 11 hits and his strikeout numbers were down but he was still very effective and that is all they want to see from their ace.
The Giants will turn to Alex Cobb here and this is a good opportunity for him to pitch well. There really is no reason for him not to be effective in this one.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The Nationals are 17-35 in their last 52 road games.
- The Nationals are 8-20 in their last 28 games against the NL West.
- The Giants are 42-13 in their last 55 games as the favorite.
- The Giants are 21-8 in their last 29 Sunday games.
Washington Nationals vs. San Francisco Giants MLB Prediction:
San Francisco has been playing some good ball and I see that continuing on Sunday.
This is certainly not a favorable matchup for the Nats and I do not see them having a ton of luck here.
Gray may be able to keep his team in it for a bit but I still feel SF will be too much when all is said and done.
Give me the Giants laying it at home here.
