The Atlanta Braves head west Saturday afternoon to open the NLDS against the Los Angeles Dodgers at UNIQLO Field at Dodger Stadium. Atlanta finished the regular season 94-68, while the Dodgers earned a first-round bye after going 100-62.
First pitch is set for 1:00 PM PT and 4:00 PM ET on FOX.
The Braves arrive in Los Angeles after surviving a three-game Wild Card Series against Philadelphia. Atlanta eliminated the Phillies Thursday night and now gets considerably less recovery time than a Dodgers club that has been waiting for its opponent.
Atlanta finally escaped Philadelphia, and naturally a rested Dodgers team is waiting at the next door.
The Braves shouldn’t lack confidence in the matchup.
Atlanta won five of six regular-season meetings with Los Angeles and outscored the Dodgers 26-15. These teams last met in October during the 2021 NLCS, when Atlanta eliminated L.A. on the way to winning the World Series.

The opening odds make Los Angeles a substantial Game 1 favorite. The Dodgers opened -220 on the moneyline, with Atlanta returning +186.
Los Angeles is laying 1.5 runs at -110, while the opening total is 8.5 with the Under priced at -119.
Atlanta needed all three Wild Card games to eliminate Philadelphia.
The Braves finished the job Thursday with a 6-3 victory, getting home runs from Matt Olson, Ozzie Albies and Michael Harris II. Harris went 5-for-11 during the series.
The Dodgers haven’t played since closing the regular season with a three-game sweep in San Francisco.
Los Angeles finished 8-2 over its final 10 games and won 100 games during the regular season. The Dodgers were also 51-30 at home.

Los Angeles finished the regular season with one of baseball’s most productive offenses, scoring 801 runs while posting a +201 run differential.
The Dodgers also carried plenty of power into October.
Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman remain the names at the top, while Teoscar Hernández finished September with a .965 OPS. Kyle Tucker also produced his best offensive month of the season in September.
The pitching staff gave Los Angeles another substantial advantage during its 100-win season.
The Dodgers allowed 600 runs, and their rotation enters October with enough depth that Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Blake Snell can follow Skubal in the series. That’s not a bad problem to have when October arrives.
The bullpen offers plenty of late-inning options too.
Tanner Scott, Roki Sasaki and Edwin Díaz give Dave Roberts several ways to finish games rather than being married to one traditional closer. In postseason baseball, having too many late-inning arms usually beats the alternative.

Atlanta finished 94-68 while scoring 742 runs and allowing 626.
The Braves’ lineup still carries plenty of home-run potential.
Matt Olson finished the regular season with 41 homers and a .502 slugging percentage. Michael Harris II added 26 homers while hitting .294, and Drake Baldwin batted .284 with 25 home runs.
Atlanta also received 22 homers from Ozzie Albies.
That power showed up at the right time Thursday, when Olson, Albies and Harris all went deep in the Wild Card clincher. Harris was particularly productive against Philadelphia after finishing the regular season as one of Atlanta’s most consistent hitters.
The challenge now is recovery.
Atlanta used its pitching staff throughout the three-game Wild Card Series, and Chris Sale isn’t expected to be available before Game 2. That leaves the Braves piecing together Saturday’s opener without their ace.

The left-hander finished the regular season 12-7 with a 2.72 ERA and 186 strikeouts. After joining the Dodgers from Detroit at the trade deadline, Skubal went 5-2 with a 2.61 ERA in 10 starts.
He finished the regular season exactly the way Los Angeles wanted.
Skubal threw seven scoreless innings against San Francisco in his final start, allowing three hits before being removed after only 75 pitches so the Dodgers could line him up for Saturday.

Atlanta has not named a traditional Game 1 starter.
The Braves are expected to piece the game together after burning through their rotation during the Wild Card Series. Grant Holmes could handle multiple innings after throwing only two frames Thursday, while Brent Suter is another option to open the game.
Chris Sale remains a possibility for Game 2 rather than Saturday.

Here is my Braves Dodgers free pick: I’m betting Under 8.5. Atlanta survived three games against Philadelphia and now immediately runs into Tarik Skubal in Los Angeles.
That’s a nasty turnaround for an offense I’m asking to provide only a modest share of this total.
I don’t need Atlanta to completely disappear at the plate. I need Skubal to keep the Braves from forcing Los Angeles into a high-scoring response.
Atlanta finally escaped Philadelphia. Its reward is Skubal. October can be a thoughtful host.
The 8.5 gives me room for the Dodgers to do most of the damage. A 5-2 or even 6-2 Los Angeles win gets us paid. That matters because I’m not betting on both teams being equally quiet.
I’m betting on one side having a difficult time supplying its half of the scoring.
Atlanta’s short turnaround only strengthens that angle after an emotional Wild Card series and a cross-country trip. Keep the Braves from turning this into a back-and-forth game, and eight runs is a pretty comfortable ceiling to work with.
Give me Under 8.5.
