Washington Nationals
Patrick Corbin and the short Nationals’ bullpen blanked the Dodgers, 6–0, on Thursday. Kenta Maeda and Julio Urias returned the favor in a 5–0 Los Angeles win on Friday.
Maeda went the first six and gave up just one hit and two walks. Urias went the final three, earning his second save of the season and avoiding a single walk.

Washington had to burn four relievers after Anibal Sanchez failed to get through the fifth inning. The last one of those four was Erick Fedde, who pitched a scoreless eighth.
He was up at the big leagues last season but he’s the Nats’ top pitching prospect, at least in the immediate future. In six innings out of the ‘pen this season, he’s gone six scoreless innings.
With Max Scherzer on Saturday and Stephen Strasburg in this one, Washington won’t anticipate needing a lot of help out of the bullpen.
The key continues to be run support. Juan Soto should be back in the lineup on Saturday after missing a few games with back spasms.
Los Angeles Dodgers
Urias has been coming out of the bullpen in an undefined role since Rich Hill and Clayton Kershaw returned in mid-April. In his last three appearances, however, he’s been the closer.
Those three outings began with a loss, when he entered the ninth in a tie game and proceeded to give up the game-winner. He’s earned saves in his last two appearances, though.

Kenley Jansen is still listed as the closer and his WHIP isn’t much above 1.00. His ERA doesn’t look pretty at the moment. Four home runs allowed in less than eighteen innings has something to do with that.
