As you would expect with these two teams facing off, LA is a massive favorite at home.
Washington Nationals
This season has been and will continue to be a very rough one for the Nationals. It was understood that 2022 was going to be quite the struggle for them and that has been dead on.
As of right now, this team is just not meant to win. They would hope in the future they will have the talent needed to compete, but I have a feeling those days are long away.
When the Nats trot out the team they have been, they cannot actually expect to do a ton of winning. When a team is this devoid of talent, it makes it almost impossible to be relevant.
For as great of a player as Juan Soto is, this team does not have a good supporting cast around him. He can contribute and give his team a chance to win, but they need more top-end talent on the roster to actually win at a consistent rate.
To me, there is not a lot that this team does well. The pitching has been dreadful and the offense has not been all that much better. It seems simple to say, but when both of those things are working against a team, it is hard to do a ton of winning.
We knew that Washington would be in the basement this season and they will likely be there for years to come. Coming into this game, they hold a record of 32-65 and trail the Mets by 27.5 games.
Although they did get the 4-3 win on Sunday, the Nats did not look very good against the Diamondbacks as they dropped two of three in their last series. Even against a team that is not very good, they did not play a very inspiring brand of baseball.
Now, things will get really hard when they hit the road to face the Dodgers. As we all know, the Nationals are a team that has a lot of flaws and there is a good chance they will be put on display starting on Monday. Paolo Espino will get the ball in the opener and he, along with the bullpen, will be in for a challenge when trying to keep that offense in check.
LA Dodgers
The Dodgers keep up their strong play and it does not look like they are going to be stopped anytime soon.
It was only a matter of time before this team really started to play up to their potential and they have been doing so for a while. I am sure a lot of teams in the NL are not so happy about that one.
For as well as the Yankees have played this season, I still view LA as the best team in the sport. When they are really clicking and healthy, I just see them as the biggest threat in baseball.
Besides occasionally playing down to their competition or blowing late-inning leads, it has been hard for me to be too critical of this group in 2022. For the most part, they have been a complete team that has played at an awfully high level.
The Dodgers flexed their muscles and asserted their dominance over the Giants in their last series, as they took all four of the games. In those contests, they outscored San Francisco by a 25-13 margin and although some of the games were close, there were not many times where it looked like they were not going to win.
Even though the Giants have not been special this season, that still is a big statement by the Dodgers to sweep their rival. It was just a year ago those two teams were dueling it out for the NL West and now they are not even close to being on the same level as each other.
In the 7-4 victory on Sunday, Clayton Kershaw did not have his best stuff, but he was still able to compete and give his team a chance. When he left, the bullpen did a very good job and the offense was able to get 3 runs in the 7th inning to seal the game.
Of course, Los Angeles cannot take any game or series lightly, but this is the ultimate get-right series. If they play their brand of baseball, there is no reason to feel they cannot continue to do a lot of winning. Tony Gonsolin will be on the bump and he has yet to record a loss this season. The right-hander is 11-0 with an ERA of 2.02 and a WHIP of 0.84.

This game is going to be a very challenging one for the Nationals and I just do not have a ton of faith in them here.
The numbers for Espino have not been awful, but this is still not the lineup he would want to face. I think it could get really ugly for DC when the game gets into the hands of that dreadful bullpen.
Gonsolin’s numbers speak for themself, but I do not feel he will approach this game any differently. If he has his pitches going, then I feel he will be effective and get win # 12 of the year.
I like the Dodgers laying the runs at home.
