Washington Nationals
The Nats have won five of six so things are getting a little better but until this team gets back into the race the heat is going to be on and they need at least a couple of more weeks of good play to make that happen. The offense has come alive, scoring five or more in all of those wins. Anthony Rendon and Juan Soto are really good in the middle of that lineup.

Patrick Corbin has looked really good in that Nationals uniform but it just hasn’t been enough so far. He pitched a complete game shutout in his last start against the Marlins and you don’t necessarily need to be worried about fatigue. The threw 116 pitches but the other time he has been in that range this season he pitched 7 shutout innings the next time. You do have to be worried about the fact that the Nationals have a terrible bullpen though.
Cincinnati Reds
The Reds have been enigmatic this season. Pitching way better than expected but not hitting as much. They could be down a couple of key hitters too with Joey Votto and Eugenio Suarez banged up. Derek Dietrich was on an insane hot streak for a moment and already has more homers than he did a year ago. They should have enough offense if they can wait out Corbin.

Tyle Mahle has won just one game but his numbers show he has probably earned a few more. He has dramatic home road splits and has been very difficult to touch in Cincinnati. Unfortunately for him this will be just his third home start of the season. He needs to watch the homers though. As measured by WAR the Reds have the fourth best bullpen in the Majors.
