Neither of these teams has gotten off to the kind of start they were hoping for. Washington especially has some work to do to get into the expanded playoff field.
Atlanta is in a better spot but with injuries mounting they are hoping they can get whole and go on some sort of a run. I don’t think anyone is expecting the Marlins to run away with the division.
Washington Nationals
Washington has a losing record but they are still just one good week from being relevant again. This team has proven that it will turn things around but the clock is ticking.
Hitting this year has been odd. Some of the teams with the worst batting averages are actually scoring a lot of runs and vice versa. The Nats are 5th in batting average but not stringing hits together to push men across. Juan Soto continues to rise though.
No starter listed yet but this looks like a spot for Anibal Sanchez. The problem is that Sanchez has been terrible this season. If they do run him out there it will be with fingers crossed.
Atlanta Braves
Originally it looked like Ronald Acuna Jr was going to be back for this game but now the picture is not as clear. What is clear is that they need him and Ozzie Albies back in the lineup.
Fortunately OF Marcell Ozuna has adapted pretty well to his new team, leading the Braves in homers. He gives Freddie Freeman some protection in the lineup.
Thanks to injuries the Braves have been patching together their starting rotation. This looks like a spot for Touki Toussaint. If that is the case it is hard to know what you are going to get. He is a high variance guy.
