Washington Nationals
Aníbal Sánchez did not pitch last year over concerns about Covid-19 and the MLB’s protocol surrounding it.
A year off didn’t deter the Nationals from re-signing him prior to the 2022 season and promptly inserting him into the starting rotation.
Sanchez will make the start in this game against one of his former teams.
His year in Atlanta was pivotal to his career longevity. He looked all but over in his final season in Detroit before arriving in Atlanta and pitching well for the Braves in 2018.
He parlayed that into a deal and a World Series Championship with the Nationals and here we are, years later, with Sanchez still pitching at 38 years old.
Washington lost its first three games to the Mets before salvaging one of the four on Sunday, 4–2.
Nelson Cruz hit his 450th career home run, a three-run shot that provided the Nats with all the runs they needed.
Erick Fedde and four relievers held the Mets at bay all afternoon, allowing just seven hits in victory.
Atlanta Braves
The Braves, meanwhile, fell behind Cincinnati early and failed to hit Hunter Greene hard in his big league debut in a 6–3 loss.
Ian Anderson did not make it through the third inning, in which Cincinnati scored five times.
Sean Newcomb and Collin McHugh threw a combined five innings in relief to spare the rest of the Braves’ bullpen.
Atlanta’s offense managed just three runs in five innings against Greene.
Two of those runs came in Greene’s final inning of work, both on solo home runs Travis D’Arnaud and Matt Olson, who collected three hits in total to bump his early-season batting average up to .571.
Huascar Ynoa, still just 23 years old, made 17 starts last season for the Braves and pitched well.
He logged 91 innings and struck out 100 to 25 walks, finishing with an ERA+ in the black (109).
He only appeared in one postseason game, which tells you the Braves still see him as having a long way to go but that also speaks to his potential.
He is one of the more interesting young arms in the game that does not receive any hype from fans or media alike.

Washington Nationals vs. Atlanta Braves MLB Prediction:
Ynoa should continue to pitch well, picking up right where he left off last season.
Sanchez may too but there’s still plenty of uncertainty around his effectiveness at this stage in his career.
Though he is not a power pitcher, his age and recent time off gives reason to be cautious.
If there’s one side that’s likely to spoil an under, it’s Atlanta. This could well be a low-scoring game, however.
