Toronto Blue Jays
The Blue Jays lost again to the Angels on Wednesday night, 6–3. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. went 0-for-4 and he’s just 3-for-18 now since making his debut a week ago.
The kid hit a double in his first game and singled twice since then but he hasn’t shown the power yet. He’s made some loud outs, though, and just watching him at the plate doesn’t give you any reason to think he won’t hit. And soon.

Toronto has one more chance to avoid a sweep in Los Angeles before this series begins. It will finish up on the road this weekend before heading back home.
Trent Thornton was a fifth round draft selection of the Houston Astros in 2015. He played at North Carolina but regressed in his career there, where he peaked as a freshman.
He spent some time in the Astros’ system before Houston flipped him for Aledmys Diaz this winter.
Texas Rangers
Mike Minor is Texas’ only reliable starting pitcher at this point. He was a first rounder out of Vanderbilt way back in 2009 but struggled with arm problems. Eventually he missed two consecutive seasons in 2015 and 2016.
The Royals gave him a chance to pitch out of the bullpen in 2017 and he delivered with an ERA+ of 176 in seventy-seven innings. After that, he got a three-year deal from Texas, which gave him the chance to start games again.

He stayed healthy for twenty-eight starts last season and finished with a 114 ERA+ and a WHIP just over 1.10. He’s been even better this season with a 0.91 WHIP and a 174 ERA+ in six starts. It’s just delightful to see him pitching well and, more importantly, staying healthy at age thirty-one after all he’s gone through in his career.
