Toronto Blue Jays
The Jays are playing a double-header against Philly on Thursday but they have to be feeling pretty good about sweeping Baltimore prior to. The offense is not hot but it is warming.
They are now up to 7th in homers with outfielders Randall Grichuk and Teoscar Hernandez leading the way. Grichuk has been scorching with homers in four straight games and five of six.
Hernandez has always had lots of power but making contact has eluded him. He has shown improvement this season the team hopes will hold.
Toronto is pitching a lot better this season even though a couple of guys they want to rely are not giving them much. Ken Giles has been hurt and fireballing rookie Nate Pearson is not there yet.
There is no starter listed here and it is going to likely be a little dependent on what happens during the double header.
Tampa Bay Rays
The Rays are doing it again. They are right there with the Yankees and with the injuries the Yankees are experiencing they might be the better future bet for the division.
Tampa is usually more about pitching than hitting but it has been the reverse this season, they are 6th in runs scored and OPS this season.
You never know how the Rays are going to deploy their arms but this looks like the spot for Ryan Yarbrough. He started against Toronto last weekend in a game the Rays won.
Coming back to face the Jays so soon may or may not be a good thing. Toronto should have more confidence for this one.
Just announced: Ryan Yarbrough will start for TB. Yarbrough will be making his second consecutive start against the Blue Jays. In the previous one, he tossed three scoreless innings before the game was suspended due to rain.
The Rays are 3-2 in games started by Yarbrough this season.
