The Blue Jays will be wrapping up their series with the A’s on Wednesday afternoon.
Jose Berrios and James Kaprielian are the expected starters in this contest.
Toronto is a big favorite on the road in the spot. The total opened at 7.5 and is now up to 8.
Toronto Blue Jays
The Blue Jays continue to be one of those teams that is hard to figure out. From game to game, it is challenging to predict what you are going to get from this group.
People can try and spin it any way they like, but this is a team that has massively underperformed this season and I do not expect them to magically flip that script as the season gets deeper.
It is not to say what they have done is all bad and they have not shown glimpses of being a good team, but it definitely has not happened as much as it should. With the type of talent they have, the bottom line is they should be playing better.
A lot of people thought these guys could win the AL East and now they are in 4th place of their division. Six games over .500 is not where Toronto wanted to be right around the halfway mark.
As the Jays headed to Oakland, the expectation was they were going to go in there and play some good baseball and that simply has not happened in the first two contests.
After losing the opener by a score of 5-1, they did not look much better on Tuesday with their 5-3 loss. Frankly, it is totally unacceptable for them to be playing down to their competition against a team like that.
In their last loss, Yusei Kikuchi was not able to give them great length, as he went 2.1 innings while issuing 5 walks and allowing 4 earned runs. After he left, the bullpen was solid but the offense just was not able to get the job done.
They will now be turning to Jose Berrios and boy, has he been a disaster. The hope is that he would come to Toronto and be one of their better guys, but he has been a big disappointment this season and it has cost them on plenty of occasions.
Oakland Athletics
The Athletics have been terrible all season long and one of the worst teams in baseball. None of that should be surprising, though, given what people thought about these guys going into the year.
As presently constituted, this is a team that just does not have enough to compete on a day-to-day basis. That does not mean there aren’t a few pieces they can build around, but they just need more.
Unlike other sports, baseball is not entirely driven by talent, but it is still very important. It is still hard to win a lot of games when the majority of your players are not all that great or they just are not developed and ready for the majors yet.
If you are a fan of this team, I would not necessarily get your hopes up and think they are going to get back to being relevant very soon. Unless a lot of their prospects begin to shine and they are able to acquire some proven players, I still do not see this team being very good for a while.
Even in an AL West that is not great, they still trail the Astros by 26.5 games. Granted, Houston is a very good team, but it should really upset them that they are also nowhere close to Seattle, LA, and Texas in the standings, either.
Just because a certain team is not playing well in a season, that does not mean they cannot surprise some people in a series and that has happened with the Blue Jays so far. I do not think many folks had them going for the sweep on Wednesday.
In this series, they have been able to get enough offense and the pitching has been very impressive. Being able to hold this team to 4 runs in 2 games is no easy task for even some of the best ones out there.
James Kaprielian will be getting the ball in this game and he just has not been able to get it going this season. For the most part, he has not been very impressive and a lot of his numbers reflect that.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The Blue Jays are 6-0 in their last 6 games after losing the first 2 of the series.
- The Blue Jays are 2-5 in their last 7 road games.
- The Athletics are 20-49 in their last 69 games vs. a team with a winning record.
- The Athletics are 17-42 in their last 59 home games.
Toronto Blue Jays vs. Oakland Athletics MLB Prediction:
The Blue Jays have played about as bad as they could have played in the first two games given who the opponent is. Needless to say, Wednesday has to be better for them.
Toronto should feel very good when facing Kaprielian. After the bats have gone pretty quiet, he is a guy they will look to do some damage against.
However, it is hard to have a ton of faith in Berrios, who has not shown me a lot this season. His team should get the job done, but it is hard for me to lay these runs in this spot.
Give me the A’s on the Runline.
