The Blue Jays will be in Milwaukee to end their series with the Brewers on Sunday afternoon.
Toronto is laying a decent price on the road with a total set at 9.5.
Jose Berrios and Chi Chi Gonzalez are the probables in this contest.
Toronto Blue Jays
The Blue Jays have been a solid team this season, but they have not been the team that a lot of people thought they would be before the season started.
When you look at the expectations that were given to them compared to how they have played so far, it is fair to say they have not lived up to them at all and it is very possible they will not for the rest of the season.
I do not want to sit here and say they have been some terrible team, but I just think there is more they could show right now. Given some of the guys they have on this team, they should be a more consistent club.
With Toronto playing up and down ball and Boston surging, it is now the Red Sox who lead them by half a game in the AL East. Clearly, those head-to-head matchups are going to mean a lot and we will get to see those teams in action starting on Monday.
As far as the offense goes for the Jays, I have liked what I have seen. It was understood they would be effective on that side of the field and for the most part, that has been the case.
The area of their game that I have not liked and feel has cost them at times is the pitching. Right now, they only have a few starters that are totally trustworthy and they have a bullpen that is shaky. Despite what some folks say about this staff, the reality is they have flaws and they have been exposed on numerous occasions already this year.
In the 5-4 loss on Saturday, Yusei Kikuchi went just 2 innings and he allowed 6 hits. The bullpen was actually pretty effective when he left, but that did not matter when all was said and done.
Jose Berrios will be getting the ball in the last game and he is a starter who simply needs to be better. When they brought him over, it was expected he would be one of the best in the rotation and that has not been the case since he has been a Blue Jay.
Milwaukee Brewers
I would say the Brewers have been a good team this season, but they have not been dominant. This is still a team that has to show they can get to the next level.
When I think of some of the best teams in the NL, I still have a hard time putting this group in the top tier. Teams like the Mets, Braves, and Dodgers are on a different level right now and this is a team that is not quite there yet.
It is clear that pitching is the biggest strength of this team and if they are to make a deep run, it would likely be because they got strong performances on that side of the field. I am not saying that could not happen, but I would still like to see them be more of a balanced team.
It is not as if they cannot score runs at all, but I am not in love with this offense. For me, they are going to have to acquire some more solid bats in the lineup for them to be a true threat when things start to really matter. What they have now could get them to a point, but I do not see it getting them over the top.
There were some people that thought it was an automatic the Brewers would win the division, but the Cardinals have also been impressive. Right now, both St. Louis and these guys have the same record of 41-33. Unless the Pirates make some sort of crazy run, it is going to be those teams dueling it out for the Central.
Milwaukee did not start off the series with Toronto how they would have liked but did bounce back on Saturday with a 5-4 win. It got a little interesting at the end, but they still got the result they were looking for.
Corbin Burnes went 7.2 innings, allowed 3 earned runs, and punched out 9 batters in their last win. Given the kind of lineup he had to face, those numbers are impressive.
After their ace just tossed a great game in their most recent game, it is hard to expect similar results on Sunday when Chi Chi Gonzalez takes the hill. I am not saying he cannot pitch well, but he will have his hands full in this one.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The Blue Jays are 20-9 in their last 29 Sunday games.
- The Blue Jays are 2-5 in their last 7 interleague road games.
- The Brewers are 10-4 in their last 14 vs. the AL East.
- The Brewers are 3-7 in their last 10 vs. a starter with a WHIP greater than 1.30.
Toronto Blue Jays vs. Milwaukee Brewers MLB Prediction:
Neither one of these starters are guys that are easy to trust right about now. It could definitely be a game where we see some offense.
Although it has not been for a ton of games, Gonzalez has not been great with the Brewers. He really has to turn that around, but Sunday might not be the day for that.
With that said, Berrios has been wildly inconsistent. He has the ability to pitch very well, but he does not do it enough.
I would say the Jays get the job done here, but the 1.5 is too much for me to lay.
