Toronto Blue Jays
Toronto managed to avoid a sweep and defeat the Yankees, 2–1, on Wednesday. Yusei Kikuchi was the winner. Matt Chapman went deep for the Jays’ first run.
Toronto had not lost two games in a row prior to the series with New York. It has still yet to lose three in a row.

Teoscar Hernandez still has not returned from an oblique injury he suffered on April 13 after taking a swing against the Yankees.
He did start rehabbing this week at Single-A, however, and homered. It is possible that he could return for this game. If not a return on Thursday, Hernandez ought to be back to play in this series at some point.
Jose Berrios followed Kikuchi in the rotation the last time, though he has not yet been announced as the starting pitcher for this game.
The former first round pick of the Minnesota Twins ten years ago now is 2–0 in five starts this season but his strikeouts are down, his walks are up, and so are his hits allowed.
His 4.13 ERA would be the highest of his career, since he made 14 starts as a rookie in 2016 and finished with an ERA over eight.
Cleveland Guardians
Cleveland split its doubleheader with San Diego on Wednesday, both teams winning a one-run game.
The Guardians cashed our play on them in game two with an extra-inning victory that saw Nick Sandlin pick up the win. Steven Kwan drove in the winning run with a single.
Thursday’s starting pitcher Aaron Civale started the season slowly and he’s only gotten worse as it has gone along.
He’s given up 17 earned runs in 14.1 innings pitched for an ERA+ of 35. The walks are up just a tad, as are the home runs allowed. His strikeout numbers are actually up, compared with the first three seasons of his career, which were quite good.
Balls are finding holes in the start to this season. Civale is giving up 13.8 hits per nine innings, a full six more per nine than last season.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- Blue Jays are 5-0 in their last 5 games as a road favorite.
- Under is 20-7-1 in Blue Jays last 28 road games.
- Under is 9-0 in Blue Jays last 9 games as a road favorite.
- Head to Head: Blue Jays are 4-12 in the last 16 meetings in Cleveland.
- Head to Head: Blue Jays are 5-2 in the last 7 meetings.
Toronto Blue Jays vs. Cleveland Guardians MLB Prediction:
This game gets over the total.
Both starting pitchers have developed names for themselves, which may help explain why the total sits at just eight.
Neither guy, however, has pitched up to the name he has established so far this season.
Even if one gets back on track, there’s a chance this game goes over. If neither one does, it will be an early winner.
So play this one over the 8.0 and look for at least four runs a side to find pay dirt.
