The Blue Jays will be in Baltimore to take on the Orioles for the second game of their series on Tuesday evening from Camden Yards.
Alek Manoah will be going up against Kyle Bradish in this contest.
In this spot, Toronto is a pretty good-sized favorite. The total opened at 8 and is now up to 8.5 in a lot of spots.
Toronto Blue Jays
The Blue Jays did not open things up how they wanted to on Monday with a 7-4 loss at the hands of their divisional rival.
It was a game they definitely could have won given the number of hits they were able to get, but they just did not play a well enough all-around game to get it done.
Starter Yuesei Kikuchi went five innings and allowed six hits and five earned runs. He was solid at times but just did not perform the way he was looking to.
Toronto was put in an early 3-0 hole and they were never really to get get out of it. Sure, they did fight back a little bit, but it was pretty clear who was in control of the game for the majority of the time.
Look, I do not know how the rest of this series is going to go, but this opener should be a reminder to the Jays about the Orioles. Just a year ago, Baltimore was considered the team they wanted to face in a get-right series and now they are a very tricky opponent that certainly cannot be taken for granted.
It was not as if this group was unable to hit the starter of the relievers, but it just did not lead to a lot. They threatened quite a bit but were unable to really capitalize and make the Birds pay.
After losing a frustrating first game, Toronto should feel very good about their chances on Tuesday when Alek Manoah takes the bump. He has shown to be one of the best arms in the AL and I really do not see him slowing down this year.
The right-hander has been impressive in virtually every important category and he truly gives his team a good chance at winning every time he takes the mound. He is coming off of a strong outing against the Twins where he was able to keep a tough offense in check.
Baltimore Orioles
The Orioles picked up an impressive win to open things up in this series and they will look to keep it rolling on Tuesday evening.
These guys are clearly facing off with a tough opponent in this series and they showed they can absolutely hang with them. There was never a time on Monday when I thought they seemed overmatched by the Jays.
Ramon Urias wasted no time at all getting the O’s on the board in the first inning with a three-run off of Kikuchi. That was just the start of what was a good day for them on that side of the field.
In the victory, Anthony Santander, Ryan Mountcastle, and Austin Hays also hit homers. Beating teams with the long ball has not always been the most common method for Baltimore this season, but it worked in the first game and it is hard to argue with the results.
In their last game, I thought the O’s did a good job of always having an answer for what their opponent was doing. Even when it seemed like Toronto was maybe creeping back in there, they always seemed to respond.
Jordan Lyles went 5.2 innings while allowing eight hits and two earned runs. The Jays were able to take some good swings off of him, but it did not lead to many runs. The right-hander only had one strikeout on the night, but he was still able to be very effective against one of the best offenses in baseball.
Needless to say, these head-to-head matchups are going to be critical for both teams as the season goes on. They did not see a lot of each other in the early part of the season, but they will meet another 14 times and those games will certainly have implications.
Kyle Bradish will get the ball in the second game and he has not been great as you look at the whole season, but he has been better in his last two starts. Regardless, he did not pitch very well against the Blue Jays the last time he saw them and he will once again be in for a tall task in order to slow them down here.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The Blue Jays are 6-1 in their last 7 games following a loss.
- The Blue Jays are 12-5 in their last 17 games vs. a right-handed starter.
- The Orioles are 93-199 in their last 292 games vs. the AL East.
- The Orioles are 75 -163 in their last 238 games with the total set at 7.0-8.5.
Toronto Blue Jays vs. Baltimore Orioles MLB Prediction:
The Blue Jays did not look very sharp in the opener, but Tuesday is a good opportunity for them to get back on track and I feel they will do so.
Bradish has not given up a ton of runs in his last couple of starts, but I do not feel that will continue when he has to face off with this potent offense that was relatively quiet on Monday.
At this point, Manoah has name recognition, but he also goes out there and performs well more times than he does not. Against this offense, I expect him to be solid and hand it off to the pen.
Give me Toronto as the favorite on the road.
