The Rangers and Twins will be facing off from Target Field for the middle game of their series on Saturday night from Target Field.
Glenn Otto will be opposed by Chris Archer in this ball game.
It has not reached -200 yet, but the Twins are still a heavy favorite in this contest. There has not been a lot of movement from the total of 8.5.
Texas Rangers
After scoring 10 runs in the finale with the A’s, the Rangers were only able to muster a run in the 2-1 loss on Friday evening vs. the Twins.
I did not walk away from this game thinking they played poorly, but I did feel they had some opportunities to do more and they just were unable to do so.
Martin Perez kept up his strong pitching in the defeat as he went six innings while scattering five hits and allowing two earned runs on seven strikeouts. He did his part in order to give his team a chance to win, but it was not enough in the end.
What we saw from the Texas offense on Friday was all too common for them in 2022. There have been too many times where the bats have just gone quiet and that is simply not acceptable given some of the hitters they have in there.
Aside from a few hits, Texas was not able to do anything against Dylan Bundy who they made look really good out there. He is an ok arm in the MLB, but they really should have been able to do more damage against a hittable starter.
Overall, I thought Friday was one of those games where they came out flat and just never were able to get it going. Again, it was a very winnable ball game, but they were not able to capitalize.
It is not all that often that Texas is able to hold a team like that to just two runs which is what makes the loss even more frustrating. It could happen again in the series, but I would have a hard time seeing them hold the Twins to that few runs for the remainder of it.
Glenn Otto will get the ball in this one and on the surface, the numbers do not look great, but he has been better of late. Still, the consistency with him has not been there in his career, and is going to have to be really sharp when he tries to hold down a tough and talented offense.
Minnesota Twins
The Twins certainly would have liked for some more production on offense in the opener, but they will take wins any way they can get them and will need to build off of this one.
They did all their damage against Perez in the first inning and then he did not allow any runs for the rest of the time he was out there. When you are facing a guy who has been as good as that lefty all season long, sometimes two runs is all you are going to be able to get off of him.
Even though it was very clear the opposing starter was a tough customer, it still would have been a good sign to see them do more damage against the bullpen for Texas. That unit for them has been shaky at best this season and they are more than capable of allowing runs to a solid offense.
As mentioned earlier, though, Minnesota is at the point in the season where they will take anything they can get. They are in the middle of a very tight battle in the AL Central and each and every game is just so important right about now.
With the victory on Friday, they still trail Cleveland by 1 game for the lead in the division. Of course, these guys are in the mix for the AL Wild Card, but they have their eyes set on the division and being the winner when the season is over.
Despite the offense not doing a whole lot in the opener, something that was really good to see was the effectiveness of Dylan Bundy who tossed 5.2 innings and allowed just two hits and one earned run.
His strikeout numbers were not high at all (2), but that did not matter as he did a very good job of pitching to contact and he allowed his defense to make the plays they had to make.
Chris Archer will be getting the ball here and he really has not been great this season. Not only is his stuff no longer the same, but he just does not go deep into ball games and that is very concerning for a Minnesota team that does not exactly have the most depth on that side of the field.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The Rangers are 17-48 in their last 65 road games vs. a team with a winning record.
- The Rangers are 1-6 in their last 7 games when their opponent allows 2 runs or less in their previous game.
- The Twins are 5-0 in their last 5 home games vs. a team with a losing record.
- The Twins are 8-2 in their last 10 Saturday games.
Texas Rangers vs. Minnesota Twins MLB Prediction:
Even in the victory, it was very clear the Twins had no groove on the offensive side of things, but I look for that change in this spot.
Look, Otto might not be as bad as his overall numbers would indicate, but I do not love him in this spot against a very tricky offense to take down.
Archer might not be great here, but if he can partially keep this order in check and hand it to the bullpen, I like the chances for Minnesota in this spot.
It is a bit heavy to lay, but the Twins ML is the play for me.
