Texas Rangers
Shelby Miller was born in Houston and raised nearby, where he became first-round pick out of Brownwood High in 2009 and signed for nearly $3 million.
He thrived in the Cardinals’ system and was in the Major Leagues by the end of 2012. He was pretty good in 2014 but the Cardinals saw something and traded him to Atlanta, where he became an All-Star in 2015 after posting an ERA just about at 2-flat in the first half of the season.
That same season, he went on to set a Braves’ franchise record with a 24 start winless streak. Miller wasn’t bad; he just got some of the worst run support in baseball history, at least since people started tracking run support.
He finished his All-Star season with a 6–17 record and 2.6 runs of support per nine innings. He went to Arizona for a prospect haul that included both Dansby Swanson and Ender Inciarte and proceeded to throw just 139 innings over three seasons, allowing 98 earned runs.
The Rangers gave him $2 million on a one-year deal in the offseason because he’s a local product who was great but he walked five and gave up six hits before departing in the middle of the fourth inning against the Astros in his American League debut. Early on, he looks like a fadeaway.

But the Angels have scored just 20 runs in eight games, even after Friday night’s win (they scored just three runs). Los Angeles’ early five-game losing streak has come to an end.

This lineup is about as bad as it gets, considering it features one of the most prolific offensive threats in baseball today, if not ever.
