Tampa Bay Rays
The Twins jumped all over Blake Snell on Tuesday, knocked him out in the fourth, and had an 8–0 lead by the fifth. Kyle Gibson cruised with that big lead to get through seven innings and the win.

Yandy Diaz is about to come off the DL after straining his hamstring a couple weeks back. He’s expected to come back in time to play in this game.
It’s no guarantee he’s going to play everyday, though. Joey Wendle is back in action and played a little third base and shortstop on Monday. Diaz has to play more than just against lefties but he’ll have to share time.
At least Tampa has the flexibility to give everyone a day. Wendle can play short and give Adames a day off. He can play second, too. Diaz can play first and give either Ji-Man Choi or an outfielder a day.
I still think Tampa is going to settle in for a fine July, August, and September before the postseason.
Minnesota Twins
The Twins got the win on Tuesday but lost Max Kepler due to an elbow injury. He isn’t expected to play on Wednesday, which leaves his status uncertain for Thursday.
Byron Buxton is already out with a right wrist. He should be back before the All-Star Break, though. For now, however, Minnesota may be without two-thirds of its fine outfield.

Martin Perez has been everything the Twins could have hoped as a backend starter for $4 million this season. He’s 7–3 with an ERA slightly better than average.
His strikeouts are way up, too. He averaged 6.1 strikeouts per nine in 2013 and 2014 with Texas; prior to this season, that was his career’s best. This season, he’s he’s K’ing 8.3 per nine. Some of it has to do with the times; some of it has to do with the stuff of a savvy veteran making the most of the opportunity he has.
