The Rays will be in Kansas City to take on the Royals for the second game of their series on Saturday evening.
Luis Patino will be opposed by Brady Singer in this spot.
Tampa bay is currently a small favorite on the road with a high total of 10.5.
Tampa Bay Rays
On the surface, it might not seem like the Rays have not been all that impressive this season, but I have liked a lot of what they have done and I only see them improving in the second half.
When it comes to this team, it is very important to remember that they have dealt with a lot of injuries and the hope is they will eventually get those guys back. They have been able to be solid with some key players sidelined, but the expectation is they take that additional step when they return to the lineup.
Once again, Tampa Bay has been able to be a relevant team with not a ton of marquee names all over the place. Don’t get me wrong, they have one of the best starters in the game and one of the best hitters, but there are still plenty of people in there that are not big names yet they have been able to be big contributors.
Although the division is out of reach, it is very reasonable that the Rays can be a playoff team this season with the extended wild card format. It will not be easy given some of the other teams going for those spots, but I would expect them to be in the postseason when all is said and done.
When it comes to the American League, teams like the Yankees and Astros get talked about a lot and deservedly so, but I still feel this is a team that not a lot of teams want to see when it matters most. They are experienced, and talented, and it is clear they do not fear any team. I do not expect them to make any crazy deals, but when they become fully loaded, I still view them as one of the top threats in the AL.
With the division and league they play in, Tampa does not get a ton of get-right games, but this whole series with the Royals should be one of those and they got off to just the right start on Friday with the 7-3 win.
Drew Rasmussen put forth a solid outing in their last win and the offense did just what they had to do against a team that does not feature very strong pitching. If they keep following that formula in this series, I would expect them to have a lot of success in it.
Getting the ball in this one is Luis Patino and he is a guy that has been sidelined for the majority of the season due to injury. This young right-hander did show some promise a year ago but did struggle with consistency. The upside is clearly very high, but putting it all together is another story.
Kansas City Royals
The Royals are a very bad baseball team and there does not appear to be a ton of hope for them. If there is only one thing that someone takes away from their season, it should be that.
When a team has played as poorly as they have, there are often fingers to point and it is no different here. The way that this team is presently constructed is not done in a manner where winning games is the most important thing.
Listen, Bobby Witt Jr. is a good story, and he is clearly a very good talent, but he has been about one of the only bright spots in what has been a disastrous season. Aside from him potentially winning the rookie of the year, there has not been a ton of positive buzz surrounding this group and that should be an area of concern for them.
As I look at this squad, it is very clear why they have not had a ton of success. Fans would hope that ownership and upper management would do things to really bolster the team, but I sure as hell would not count on that one.
At the present time, I just do not view Kansas City as a team that is all that talented on either side of the field. I am not saying they have to be at the top of some major categories, but they simply have not been able to get enough production on the pitching and batting side and I do not see a ton of reasons for that to change.
Overall, this is a group that just does not have a ton of talent on their roster aside from a few guys here and there. Unless there is a conscious effort to really get better players, I would expect to see more of the same in the future.
This series with Tampa is going to be quite a challenge for the Royals and it started out just how a lot of people thought it would. The weak pitching was once again put on display and so was the lack of offense.
Brady Singer will be starting in this one and I feel he has been too hit-or-miss this season. There is no question he is very talented, but I still want to see him pitch well on a more consistent level.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The Rays are 7-1 in their last 8 games overall.
- The Rays are 37-16 in their last 53 games overall.
- The Royals are 19-39 in their last 58 games vs. a right-handed starter.
- The Royals are 16-35 in their last 51 games vs. a team with a winning record.
Tampa Bay Rays vs. Kansas City Royals MLB Prediction:
The Rays followed a familiar script in the opener and I could see them doing so again here.
Patino is a big question mark here given how long he has been out, but I still trust him and the bullpen for Tampa more than KC here.
Singer could be strong in this one, but it would not shock me if the Royals figure out some way to waste that.
Give me the Rays laying the short price on the road.
