Tampa Bay shook off a jolting 17–1 loss to one of the worst teams in baseball on Sunday to pick up a one-run victory over the Royals on Monday.
Rookie Ryan Yarbrough got it done, pitching five innings and giving up just one run. He got the win because Tampa Bay broke a 1–1 tie with a run in the top of the sixth.

Matt Duffy, who knocked in Tampa Bay’s first run, singled home Adeny Hechavarria, who used a nifty move to dodge the catcher’s tag attempt. It was the last run either team would score.
Jacob Faria’s peripherals aren’t that much different than last season’s but his ERA is. He was lucky last season and hasn’t been so far this. He takes the ball on Wednesday.
Kansas City Royals
Kansas City’s offense has been better but it’s coincided with its pitching getting worse. The end result is that Kansas City is still losing a ton of games, more than twice as many as it wins, as of now.
Ned Yost let Jason Hammel out for the dogs in his last start in Cleveland. The Indians punished him for nine runs before Yost finally came with the hook with two out in the fourth.

But the Royals rallied and ended up winning the game, 10–9. It was their only win in the series. So while Hammel got off the hook for a loss, his numbers took a hit. His ERA jumped 1.25.
