The Rays will be taking on the Tigers from Comerica Park in the middle game of their series on Friday night.
Corey Kluber vs. Brayan Garcia is the expected pitching matchup in this one.
Tampa is a very heavy favorite on the road as expected with a total of 8.5.
Tampa Bay Rays
The Rays picked up a nice 6-2 victory in their first or four games with the Tigers on Thursday. They did just what they had to do against a team like Detroit.
When these guys are really clicking, they are able to get solid production on both sides of the field and that is what happened last time out.
Starter Jeffrey Springs went six scoreless innings while scattering four hits and punching out four batters. He made easy work of a lineup that has had its struggles all season long.
He is not always a guy you think of to have those sorts of outings, but he just had it going. With all of his pitches being mixed and used effectively, the Tigers just did not have a whole lot of answers for him.
The Rays went ahead 2-0 in the third inning and then allowed Detroit to tie it due to some defensive mistakes. This is a team that is normally solid on that side of the field so those were a little surprising to see.
It did not take long for Tampa to respond and Randy Arozarena was in the middle of it all as he recorded a four-hit night with 2 RBI as well.
Brandon Lowe also added a two-run homer and picked up three RBI in the game. It is definitely a good sign for this ball club to get that kind of production from him.
In the second game of this series, Corey Kluber will get the ball and while he has not been great this season, he has still been solid. His last start came against the Guardians where he was largely effective.
Detroit Tigers
The struggles for the Tigers continued into the opener with the Rays and there are not many reasons to feel they will all of a sudden go away.
There were certain times on Thursday when they had chances to do some damage, but overall, they just did not do enough in order to beat a tough and talented team.
Drew Hutchinson started the game and he did allow eight hits but only two earned runs. Tampa was able to take some good swings off of him, but he was able to limit the damage for the most part.
Alex Lange, who has mostly been reliable this season, struggled with his command in the seventh inning as he issued two walks.
When facing a team such as the Rays, you just cannot give them extra bases like that because there is a good chance they will make you pay which is what happened.
When the game was already 5-2, Wily Peralta came in and allowed three hits and one earned run in the 9th inning to cap off just a bad overall night for the relievers.
Detroit picked up two errors in the game which also cost them. Shaky defense has been a common theme for them this season and that is often the case with teams that are not very good.
Bryan Garcia will be getting the start on Friday and he currently does have a decision to go along with an ERA of 4.91. Being able to get his first win of the season will be a tall order against this offense.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The Rays are 9-4 in their last 13 when their opponent scores 2 runs or less in their previous game.
- The Rays are 13-7 SU in their last 20 games against Detroit.
- The Tigers are 6-18 in their last 24 overall.
- The Tigers are 5-15 in their last 20 games on grass.
Tampa Bay Rays vs. Detroit Tigers MLB Prediction:
The Rays followed a simple yet effective recipe in the opener and I can see them doing more of the same in this one.
Kluber is not the guy he was with the Tribe, but he still has the ability to pitch well and I like this matchup with him going against a lineup that is just not great.
There is not a ton of data to go on for Garcia as it pertains to this season, but I do not exactly love his chances in a spot like this.
This could be close for a bit, but I still like Tampa laying the runs here.
