Tampa Bay Rays
Once again, the Rays are playing some solid baseball and they are definitely a team to watch out for in the American League.
This season has been a little rocky for them at times, but when they are on their game, they are a very trickly club to take care of and are still dangerous.
After having a very smooth regular season and winning the division a year ago, the expectations were quite high for this group in 2022. A lot of people thought the wins would be coming on a more regular basis, but they have struggled with consistency at times.
Just because they are not winning at the clip they did last season, does not mean this season cannot be a successful one for them. Winning the division is not possible for anyone besides the Yankees, but Tampa could definitely finish 2nd in the East and be a top Wild Card spot.
When it comes to the Rays, I really like their offense and they have been able to get production on that side of the field quite a bit this season. Besides Franco, they might not always have the most universally recognizable players out there on a daily basis, but they still figure out ways to hit for power and get those runs in.
The pitching is the area that I feel they need to improve a bit. Of course, they have a Cy Young candidate in the rotation, but some of their other starters are questionable and for the first time in a long time, I am not totally sold on their bullpen.
After the bats got silenced on the 4th of July, Tampa was ready to go on Tuesday and was able to get the 8-4 win over their divisional rival. It was a close game for a while, but they were really able to blow it open with a big 6th inning.
Next up in the rotation is Corey Kluber and he has been able to be effective at times, but he is just not the guy he once was and needs to be very careful with his pitches or he will get hit very hard. He will be seeing a team that he has had mixed results against in his career.
Boston Red Sox
Right now, I really like the direction that the Red Sox are headed in. For some time now, they have been one of the more impressive teams in the sport.
Yes, they have come back down a little bit and not quite winning at the clip they were just a little while back, but I still like what I see. They can still have a very good month of July, but it will be very tricky for them to duplicate what they need in their excellent month of June.
In their last 10 games, Boston is 5-5. Going back to their series with Toronto last week, they would certainly admit they could be playing some better baseball, but there is also no worry within that clubhouse.
This month for the Sox is going to be a grueling one. They are going to see an awful lot of AL East opponents and quite frankly, it could either make or break their season.
As we have heard so many times in the past, head-to-head matchups in a division are so important and that is no different here. With these guys and the Rays so close to each other in the standings, they understand the meaning of every one of these games, which is why I expect the season series to be pretty close when they are done playing each other.
Nick Pivetta has been a guy the Sox have relied upon a lot this season, but he did not have his best stuff on Tuesday evening. The Rays had a very good approach against him and they were able to do quite a bit of damage against him.
In their last game, the right-hander went 5.2 innings while giving up 8 and 7 earned runs. I would not say it is anything to panic over, but it is something to take note of for sure.
With some of the injuries in the Boston rotation, Bryan Bello will get his chance on Wednesday at the big league level and he sure comes in with a lot of hype. There is no question this kid has put up plenty of good numbers in the minors and now he will get his chance to do it on the big stage.

Since the Red Sox have really turned their season around, they have been good at bouncing back from losses and I look for them to do that here.
Kluber is a guy who simply is no longer dominant and I think he will have a tough time with this offense. Boston hit him very well earlier when their offense was not clicking a ton and I could see them having similar results here.
As far as Bello goes, it is truly hard to predict what he will do. He has good stuff, but there is still a big leap from his level to the majors. Regardless, I can see the Sox taking a close one in the final game of the series.
I like the Red Sox laying a reasonable price at home.
