Tampa Bay Rays
The way the Rays are playing now is how people thought they would be. It does seem as if they are getting back to the team we expected.
There was no doubt that this team got off to an average start but it is hard not like what they have done since then. It was only a matter of time for a team like this to get back into a nice rhythm.
Compared to teams they have had in past years, this is not their most talented but that has not been the biggest issue in 2022. With that said, I do feel they will have to beef up this roster on both sides of the field if they want to be a true contender.
As I look at this roster, it is clear to me that the offense is the best part of what they do. Sure, a few more proven bats in that lineup would be nice but I mostly like what I see from there.
The pitching, however, is not something I love about them and that is something they will really need to improve. There are some talented arms in their rotation and pen but there are also plenty of guys that I really do not trust in big spots.
For the first time in what seems like forever, the pitching department is really not a strength of this group. You became so used to seeing it that it is strange not to see it.
After dropping 8-6 to the Orioles on Friday, Tampa bounced back and got the 6-1 win on Saturday. They got right to work and did just what they had to do.
In their last victory, Jeffrey Springs went 5.2 innings, allowed just 1 hit, and struck out 7 batters. After he left, the bullpen did just what they had to do.
Baltimore Orioles
The Orioles have not done all that well during this season. As a baseball fan, that sentence is just the norm with this team.
Compared to other seasons, I think it is fair to say that this start has not been as bad as the past but it still is nothing to write home about. Big surprise, they are still on pace to lose an awful lot of baseball games.
Baltimore knew this season would not be measured in terms of playoffs so they really had to see some improvements in their team. I am sure you could find areas where they are marginally better but it certainly is nothing that stands off the page.
Coming into this game with Tampa, the Birds have a record of 16-25 and they are once again in the cellar of the AL East. Until things really change big time for them, that is where they will be for a while.
On a day-to-day basis, the team they put out there is just one that is not very talented. Yes, there are folks that have some potential but we know this league is mostly about proven guys. Of course, prospects can come up and immediately help the club but the more realistic route is that it will take them time to develop.
Right now, Baltimore needs help in every area that a team could need help in. Their pitching is brutal and has been for some time now, their offense is average at best, and their manager, front office, and ownership group are nothing great. Saying that they have a lot of work to do is an understatement.
The loss on Saturday put on display a few of their weaknesses. The offense did not show up and only scored a run but the pitching did not do its job either. It is hard to win ball games that way.
Kyle Bradish went 5.1 innings and allowed 5 earned runs in the defeat to Tampa. They will now turn to Spenser Watkins which cannot make them too thrilled.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The Rays are 19-7 in their last 26 games as a road favorite.
- The Rays are 10-4 in their last 14 road games.
- The Orioles are 30-68 in their last 98 games overall.
- The Orioles are 2-5 in their last 7 games as a home underdog.
Tampa Bay Rays vs. Baltimore Orioles MLB Prediction:
The Rays showed just what they needed to do in order to beat this team on Saturday. If they can put forth solid pitching and get to the Baltimore starter or bullpen, they will take care of business.
Neither one of these pitchers does a helluva lot for me but I trust Kluber more. Really, I trust his offense more and feel like they will do well against Watkins & co.
I look for Tampa to start off well and not look back on Sunday.
Rays on the run line is my play.
