St. Louis Cardinals
The Cardinals might not be a team that gets a lot of attention or stands out to people, but they have been an impressive team in 2022.
Despite not being overly flashy, they have been steady throughout the course of the season and that is certainly an important trait to have during a long season.
I do not think people are all that surprised with their solid play but I do not think everyone had them only being half a game behind the Brewers for 1st place at the 50+ game mark.
Coming into play, St. Louis has a record of 32-23. The chances of them getting to 1st place at one point during the season is certainly realistic but it is another for them to stay there.
When you look at the schedule for the Cardinals, they have been able to take care of the teams they need to beat but have also beaten some better ones.
Their last series with the Cubs was a good example of them beating a team they needed to beat. Despite not playing their best ball in game 2, they still had a successful series.
In the series with Chicago, the offense and pitching were solid for the most part. If they can keep those things up for the rest of the season, they will continue to win a lot of games.
This series with Tampa will certainly be a test for this group but it should be one they are up for. It all starts with Dakota Hudson on the mound in the opener and he has been sharp so far. He owns a record of 4-2 and ERA under 3 at the moment.
Tampa Bay Rays
The Rays have had a strong season so far. I certainly like the direction that this team is headed in.
Based on how they have played in past years, I do feel a lot of people expected them to be playing better than they have been but I still feel they will get to that next level and be better than what we have seen.
Don’t get me wrong, they are already playing well but I look for them to be a little more consistent as the season goes on.
As baseball fans, we often talk about how tough the AL East is and Tampa Bay is seeing that first hand.
With a record of 31-23, they are in 3rd place of their division and trail the Yankees by 8 games. Unless things change, it looks like it will be Tampa and Toronto fighting for 2nd while New York stays in 1st place.
The Rays really did not take care of business in their last series with the White Sox, as they dropped 2 of 3. Those were games they should have been able to play better but they did not do so.
This series with St. Louis is not going to get any easier for them. If they do not look any sharper than they did against Chicago, the results will be very similar.
Jeffrey Springs will start off the game and will likely go just a few innings. From there, it will be in the hands of the bullpen, who have been good this season, but not as dominant as in past years.

With Hudson on the mound, I feel confident in St. Louis. Although he will be facing a tricky lineup, I look for him to have success on Tuesday.
There is no question Springs has been sharp but I have questions about their pen. They are not as reliable as in past seasons and I look for the Red Birds to do enough to get the win.
I like the Cardinals as a road dog.
