The Cardinals and Red Sox will be finishing off a series on Sunday afternoon.
Andre Pallante will be opposed by Nick Pivetta in this one.
Boston is currently a decent-size favorite at home with the total sitting at 9 runs.
St. Louis Cardinals
The Cardinals keep on playing very good baseball and frankly, they are one of the more impressive teams in the sport at the moment.
This is a team that has been solid for the whole year, but they really elevated their game as the season has gone on and they look to be a true threat in the NL.
They are not a group that is overly flashy or the most talented, but they know how to play well on both sides of the field and get victories. At this very time, it is hard to complain about what they are doing.
A lot of players have made big contributions to them this season, but the guy who has been in the middle of it all is Paul Goldschmidt. This is a guy who is doing it with his glove and bat and right now would win the NL MVP.
St. Louis did not start off their series with the Sox they would have liked on Friday, but they bounced back in a big way on Saturday to the tune of an 11-2 victory.
In their most recent win, the Cards got to Kutter Crawford early and then did more damage against their bullpen. When all was said and done, they tallied 14 hits.
Dakota Hudson gave his team 5 innings while allowing 2 earned runs on Saturday. The walks for him were a bit concerning, but he was still able to be effective when he was out there.
Andre Pallante will be getting the ball in the final game of this series and so far, he has been impressive. The youngster is 2-1 with an ERA of 1.46 and will look to carry that over to Boston.
Boston Red Sox
Despite playing about as bad as a team could play on Saturday, when you look at the whole, the Red Sox have been a much better team and appear to be in the right direction.
After getting off to a very sluggish start that saw them playing inconsistent baseball, this team was able to really string together some wins and at least put them in the wild-card picture.
When you look at how well the Yankees have played, the strong play of Boston has not resulted in them gaining a ton of ground on New York, but they have been able to get closer to Toronto and Tampa.
As of right now, the Sox hold a record of 35-31 and are 4th in the East. They trail the Rays by 1.5 games and the Jays by 2.5 games. Winning the division simply does not seem attainable right about now, but being able to jump those two rivals and be 2nd in this division certainly is.
As we all know, head-to-head games in a division are so important and that will be no different this season. The Sox are going to see a lot of the teams ahead of them in the dog days of summer and they have better play well or they might just find themselves buried.
One theme that has been noticeable in better play is improved starting pitching, but that was not the case in the Saturday loss.
Kutter Crawford went 4 innings, allowed 4 earned runs, and also gave up 6 hits against the Cards. When he left, the bullpen did not do its job, which resulted in the lopsided final score.
Getting the ball on Sunday is a guy that the Sox have really begun to count on. Nick Pivetta has been going deep into games while putting forth solid outings. The right-hander will have to do so once again to get his club the series win.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The Cardinals are 7-3 in their last 10 games on grass.
- The Cardinals are 8-20 in their last 28 interleague games vs. a team with a winning record.
- The Red Sox are 10-1 in their last 11 games vs. the NL Central.
- The Red Sox are 7-0 in their last 7 games vs. a team with a winning record.
St. Louis Cardinals vs. Boston Red Sox MLB Prediction:
Boston knows they played horribly on Saturday and it all started with pitching. With Pivetta on the mound, I feel a lot more confident in their chances.
Based on the two teams involved and the two starters, I could see this game being a close one when everything is settled.
Pallante could certainly be effective here, but I still like the Sox to do enough against him to get the job done.
It is a little more than I typically pay, but I like the Sox on the Moneyline.
