The Mariners will be in Toronto to take on the Blue Jays on Wednesday, May 18th.
Marco Gonzales and Kevin Gausman are your starters in this ball game.
Toronto is laying a huge price at home here. The total began at 8.5 and has dropped to 8 across the board.
Seattle Mariners
After getting off to a strong start this season, the Mariners have cooled off considerably. They have not looked all that great of late.
Right now, they are a team that is battling consistency issues. It has been a big challenge for them to string together lots of winning baseball in a row which is never a good sign.
When you look at their team, there is certainly reason to feel confident in them. They may not be the most talented club out there but they do have the pieces to be competitive in the AL.
There is no question that they have underperformed given their expectations. Of course, there is still a lot of ball to be played but things do not exactly look great in Seattle right now.
We already knew how loaded their league is but something else that they have to keep an eye on is how good their own division is. The Astros are playing as we expected, the Angels are much improved, and right now, the Rangers are ahead of the M’s.
These guys have already dug themselves a hole and if they are not careful, it will be insurmountable. If they keep up this kind of play, Houston could lead them by 15 games by the summertime.
The offense once again did not show up for the Mariners in the 3-0 loss on Tuesday. It is hard to win games when they have scored a combined 2 runs thus far.
Logan Gilbert was very sharp in their last loss, as he went 7 innings, allowed 3 earned runs, and 9 punchouts. I guess his team didn’t realize that you need to score runs in order to win the game.
Toronto Blue Jays
I am not going to sit here and say the Blue Jays have been awful but I am also not about to sing their praises. They still have an awful lot of work to do if they wish to get to the top of the MLB hierarchy.
An accurate way to describe this team so far would be decent. Sure, they have played some solid baseball but it has not been anything that jumps off of the screen.
Given the kind of expectations and narratives surrounding this group before the year started, they should have a better record than 20-17. Let us not forget that they were the favorite to win the East and a popular World Series pick.
Of course, with teams that are ultra-talented, there is always the chance that they truly do figure it out and assert their dominance in the AL. I do not doubt that there is another level to their play we have not seen yet but they have better figure it out quickly.
Toronto has to know that the Yankees are not going anywhere and will keep up their strong play the rest of the way. Another divisional opponent they have to keep an eye on is the Rays, who have also been playing well and currently lead the Jays in the standings.
I think a lot of folks were under the impression that they would just put the uniforms on and the wins would pile up. Being talented is obviously important but it is not the only thing and they have found that out.
Although Seattle is not a great opponent at the moment, I have liked the way Toronto has taken care of them so far in the series. They will look to complete the sweep on Wednesday evening.
Jose Berrios went 7 innings, did not allow an earned run, and struck out 4 batters in their last win. It was about time that he put forth a really solid outing because he had not been anything all that great to that point. The ace of the staff will get the start on Wednesday which ought to make the Jays feel very good.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The Mariners are 5-14 in their last 19 games.
- The Mariners are 3-9 in their last 12 road games.
- The Blue Jays are 6-1 in their last 7 home games vs. a left-handed starter.
- The Blue Jays are 13-4 in their last 17 vs. AL West.
Seattle Mariners vs. Toronto Blue Jays MLB Prediction:
Seattle has not looked too great in this series and I really do not have any reason to feel they will be better here. I see more of the same from them.
First off, Toronto has a considerable advantage with their starter. Gausman has emerged as one of the best pitchers in baseball and has consistently given his team quality outings in 2022.
Frankly, I do not see Gonzales having all that much success against this potent offense. With the right-handed power this team features, they really should be able to feast on this soft-tossing lefty.
I like the Jays laying the 1.5 runs at home.
