The Mariners will be on the road to face the Rangers on Saturday evening.
Marco Gonzales will be going against Dane Dunning in this contest.
Texas is currently a small favorite at home in this one with the total sitting at 8.5.
Seattle Mariners
The Mariners started off the series just how they would have liked on Friday with the 6-2 win over their divisional rival.
It was good for this team to get rookie Julio Rodriguez back in the lineup who ended up with two hits and two RBI. It is no surprise that he had an immediate impact on the game after being hurt.
Seattle was able to play solid on both sides of the field and beat a team they should be beating. Sure, their opponent is better this season, but they still are a team they have to take care of business against.
Starter George Kirby went 5.2 innings and allowed two earned runs to go along with five strikeouts. He did allow seven hits as well but did a good job of limiting the damage.
In their last 10 games, Seattle is now 7-3 in those games and it does not look like they are going to slow down. Really, it would not shock me if they kept up their strong play for the rest of the season.
Although winning the AL West is out of the question, these guys being in the playoffs is a very real possibility and a lot of people expect them to be in it when all is said and done.
With their win on Friday, they now lead the Blue Jays by half a game for the top spot in the Wild Card. Of course, there is a long way to go, but the Mariners are in a good spot at the moment.
Marco Gonzales will get the ball in this one he has had an up-and-down season to this point. He is coming off a solid outing against the Angels where he went six innings and allowed three earned runs.
Texas Rangers
The Rangers were unable to get the job done in the opener and it is hard to imagine they will have a ton of answers for the rest of the series.
Offensively, this crew was able to get nine hits in the loss on Friday, but they were unable to do a lot with it. They had opportunities to do more against Kirby but clearly did not do so.
As for the pitching, they went with a bullpen game and Josh Sborz started it off and went one inning and allowed one earned run. After he left the game, things did not exactly go well for this team on that side of the field.
Taylor Hearn allowed three hits and three earned runs on 2.2 innings of work and only recorded one punchout. Both Matt Moore and Jonathan Hernandez allowed one earned run each later on in the game.
Anything could happen in the rest of the series, but the opener is once again a reminder to Texas that Seattle is just a better and more complete team. Even when they do not play their best game, they still figure out ways to take them down.
One thing that is very telling is these two ball clubs have played 14 times in 2022 and Seattle has taken 12 of them. If the Rangers want to compete with their divisional rival for years to come, they are really going to have to improve their team in a lot of different ways.
Texas will be turning to Dane Dunning on Saturday and he has not always gotten the most run support, but he also has not been great this season. I would say he has been solid at times, but the consistency has not been there.
The right-hander is coming off a strong outing against the White Sox and will once again have a chance to face off with a tough lineup when he faces off with a very talented M’s lineup.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The Mariners are 14-3 in their 17 during game 2 of a series.
- The Mariners are 20-6 in their last 26 road games.
- The Rangers are 5-13 in their last 18 vs. the AL West.
- The Rangers are 2-6 in their last 8 during game 2 of a series.
Seattle Mariners vs. Texas Rangers MLB Prediction:
The Mariners showed just what they had to do to get the win in the opener and I look for them to have similar results on Saturday.
Gonzales is not the most overpowering guy out there, but I feel he can be effective against this lineup and hand it off to the pen.
As far as Texas goes, I just have a hard time seeing Dunning keeping his opponent in check for the whole time he is out there. Also, the relievers for this group have been shaky at best this season.
I like Seattle as a small dog on the road here.
