The Mariners and Rangers will be playing the third game of their series on Saturday afternoon.
Logan Gilbert and Spencer Howard are the expected starters in this one.
I have not seen any movement from the opening total of 8.5 so far.
Seattle Mariners
The Mariners have really begun to find their groove and they are suddenly one of the hottest teams in the sport.
The winning streak has now reached 12 and they do not appear to have an end in sight. There is no question this is one of the most confident teams in the league right about now.
I am not saying that people necessarily expected them to rattle off these many wins in a row, but there were still many to believe that they would eventually find it and at least be relevant in the AL.
Before the season started, the expectations for this team were very high, and for good reason. They had just put forth a solid campaign in 2021 and the hope was they would only improve in 2022. It took some time, but there is no question they are playing how they would like to be.
Coming into this tilt on Saturday, Seattle is the second wild card team. Given what kind of path they were on just a little bit ago, that is very impressive and they will look to eventually get the top spot.
Although they have been able to cut it to 10 games, winning the AL West is still going to be very challenging and likely will not happen. With the kind of hole they dug themselves earlier and how well the Astros have been playing, it is hard for me to see them overtaking Houston.
The M’s kept up their strong play on Friday with the 8-3 victory. Robbie Ray delivered a great, 12-strikeout performance and the offense once again was very effective. When a team can get that kind of pitching and offense, they should always feel good about their chances.
Next up in the rotation is Logan Gilbert and this kid has been as advertised this season. He has been extremely reliable this season and is one of their most trusted guys in the rotation at the moment. He will be looking for win number 11 in this divisional clash.
Texas Rangers
At almost the 90-game mark, I still do not know entirely what to make of the Rangers. They are still a team that I have some questions about.
It is agreed upon that they are better this season than they have in past years, but they still are not where they would like to be. Based on what they have done so far, I project them to be a middling or slightly below middling team when the year is done and that is not good enough for the future.
In the first season of being a noticeably improved club, I do think they could get away with not being a playoff team, but the time is ticking. The expectation is they will be playing more meaningful baseball for the years to come and will just be more relevant in what is a tough AL.
As I look at this team, it is clear they have the potential to be something special on offense if they keep building that side of the field. Seager and Semien are clearly a good base for a lineup, but they are still going to have to acquire more guys if they want to be truly dangerous in that area.
The part of their game that really needs the most work is their pitching. If Texas was a little better in that area, I could see them being more of a competitive team this season, but that area has really held them back on many occasions this season and it should be something that ends up being addressed.
When facing the red-hot Mariners, it was going to be a good indication of how the Rangers could stack up and they just are not there yet. After losing a close one in the opener, things were not all that close in the middle game and it does not get any easier on Saturday.
Of course, they would love to win the remaining two games and earn the split, but that is going to be a very tall task. They have not shown me a lot so far to think they will have many different results in the final two.
Spencer Howard will get the start and to be blunt, it has been rough for him. Texas better hope the bats are really going for them because it is hard to have a ton of confidence that he will keep this offense in check.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The Mariners are 10-1 in their last 11 games with the total set at 7.0-8.5.
- The Mariners are 13-3 in their last 16 games vs. a team with a winning record.
- The Rangers are 18-38 in their last 56 during game 3 of a series.
- The Rangers are 6-1 in their last 7 Saturday games.
Seattle Mariners vs. Texas Rangers MLB Prediction:
The Mariners have just been rolling and I have a hard time seeing them stop here.
Seattle is just the more complete team and they have a clear advantage with their starting pitcher, which I think will help them a great deal in this one.
As previously mentioned, Howard has been shaky at best and he is going to have an awfully difficult time trying to slow down this offense.
With the price not being crazy, I like the M’s as the road favorite in this one.
